  1. What keeps you going as a nurse?

    1) Best money I can make for only two years of education. 2) Caring for my family. 3) Helping an underserved group of people. 4) I'm great at it and learn quickly.
  2. Spending my life caring for people sounds awful. I hope to do something useful with my career, like maybe design a mandatory geriatric euthanasia machine.
  3. What size are your Danskos?

    Size 37. I wear a 7 US.
  4. What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?

Why on Earth didn't you say, "And I hope you ******* die in a fire. Too bad we don't always get what we want,"?
  5. Happy Thanksgiving!

Crab legs, shrimp, roasted potato, corn, and lots of champagne. And chocolate cheesecake. Might have pasta later.
  6. Thankful To Be A Nurse On Thanksgiving

    1) My husband. Truly my better half. We have been through so much, good and bad. He's the only one I could ever want. 2) My son. The miracle, the joy, the whole package that he is. It sounds arrogant and crazy, but I know he is destined for greatness...
  7. Off topic: 8 year old found out Santa doesn't exist

I'm unsure why people lie to children and think it's "cute." Teaching children irrational nonsense and then being sad when they catch you is just weird.
  8. Do you miss bedside nursing?

I worked bedside 7 years. Hated about 80% of it. I work in correctional health services. I love about 80% of it.
  9. Rate Your Pain

I hemorrhaged at work with an ectopic pregnancy. I was doing a med pass for 30 at a SNF. I had blood on my shoes, but I still was passing pills before I noticed. It was, in retrospect, 8/10 pain. The whole "must be unable to speak" to be in severe pa...
  10. Helping patients kill themselves

It's the individual's choice to live or die. This is a ridiculous and ancient topic. Don't like the future of hospice? There are options. If you don't like abortions, don't get one. If you don't like same sex marriage, avoid marrying someone of the s...
  11. Do most nurses not like writing papers?

    I love writing.
  12. Work Politics... oh boy...

Keep it no-nonsense and professional. Let her finish her rants. Ask her if she's done. Then repeat what you've asked. If you never react, a month of this will likely break her histrionics.
  13. If you are an LPN are you married or in a relationship?

I think you mean another word other than disregard. Also, I was kidding, kind of. A lot of nursing and activities around it are about emotional masturbation, so I like to laugh at my insensitivity. Also, cashmere.
  14. If you are an LPN are you married or in a relationship?

I have no clue why I docked 26 hours. Too much looking at the schedule has killed my ability to use math.
  15. If you are an LPN are you married or in a relationship?

Nurses in general? You just snubbed every RN in this thread. Do you mean mandation? 12 hour shifts? I work 50-60 hour weeks, but always have two days off, minimum. I make it work. There are 142 hours in a week. Make the most of it. I manage to make d...
  16. New mom- night shift vs day shift?

I have an infant and have tried both. Night shift was terrible. I love day shift.
  17. If you are an LPN are you married or in a relationship?

RNs get to do more assessments and give more drugs and have more opportunity to specialize. It's not like they're treated like queens and never wipe a butt.
  18. Your employer is not your mother. You were able to work a few days at a normal pace. If I am truly hurt, I want treatment at a hospital right then. I'd call shenanigans, too.
  19. I hate nursing

Yes. Stop whining, because I respect you as a colleague.
  20. If you are an LPN are you married or in a relationship?

It's the same for RNs. For some people working PRN works, for some it's 12 or 8 hour shifts. As a nurse, mother, and wife, I choose to work 12 hour shifts in a prison.
  21. Colleagues who hate patients

Feign compassion? I'd rather have someone give me an ugly, decisive assessment than pretend to be what they're not, or be a sanctimonious jerk. Some patients are great. Some aren't.
  22. 2015. I had an older coworker who wore that.
  23. Have you gained sympathy for Nurse Ratched

In the book, she's a gas-lighting monster who doesn't advocate for her patient. She is an actual abusive nurse, including the oh-so precious lateral violence to a young, pretty coworker. No, I have no sympathy for her, and if she was my coworker IRL,...
  24. Can Text Convay Enough

Oooh. That's another matter. (I don't associate humanity with benevolence, but that is probably why I'm a prison nurse.)
  25. Can Text Convay Enough

    Humanity isn't always good.
