  1. Don't pay for your insurance too soon. Again, you don't want anything to expire during the school year. Wait until the end of December
  2. @Murse_Daniel I did mine with the American Red cross but it really doesn't matter. Just make sure it is listed as being for for Health Care professionals
  3. I would call the office and ask! Just to be safe.
  4. If you're in the process of completing the series just upload what you have so far. Real people look at what is uploaded and they will send you customized notifications as to what is due next. Don't stress
  5. Not really sure what I put, it's been a while since I filled it out but for employment you can just try putting "Student" or N/A maybe?
  6. If you know you've gotten vaccinations at some point, just get all of the titers done so check for immunity. This is the best thing to do anyways to make sure you are really immune and not just vaccinated. So get all titers done, and if one comes back negative then you can get the vaccine/booster for that and then you will need to re-titer in a month.
  7. Definitely cancel. And even though the card is good for 2 years, the nursing program requires you to redo it every year. Lame, I know.
  8. Don't get your CPR certification done too early. You don't want it to expire during the school year. Wait until late December/early Janurary.
  9. All of my stuff was cheaper through my insurance and primary care physician but it may be different for others! Def look into it! :)
  10. When I applied we never even found out how many had applied. However, there are definitely less applicants for a spring start because only SJSU student can apply. So this will definitely increase your likelihood of getting accepted. Good luck!
  11. @zombazomba you will never know unless you apply so please apply! I will say that Spring is less competitive because transfer students are not usually accepted. So the applicant pool includes students that are already at SJSU only, cutting out a good number of applicants. And yes you can only apply to the program twice.
  12. Hi folks. I am a second semester student in the program and I'd like to help answer any questions you might have regarding applications or the program, or really just anything. I like coming on these threads to help out because I honestly wish I had someone do the same for me when I was applying to help answer my questions, so hopefully I can do that for you! :)
  13. Make sure you guys add the SJSU Nursing Student Group also, btw :)
  14. Yes teachers do allow you to record lectures. I will say that the only class you might really need to record is patho because thare is a lot of information. Pharmacology tests are EXACTLY like the lecture guides so you can easily just learn/memorize the info from those. You wont need to record in PRD whatsoever. And as for skills it just depends on your instructor and how they teach. My instructor was definitely more hands on and didn't really formally lecture too much. But it all depends in your personal learning style! :)
  15. And Beatrix.P, CNA as for your question... I have told people that this first semester challenged me BUT I didn't feel defeated by it. I really think that's the best way of putting it. I really had no idea what to expect going in, people will tell you that it is going to be SOOO hard and it IS hard but I promise you, you will make it through the semester. Patho is usually the most difficult class for people BUT I do know that most of my cohort thought pharmacology was a little harder than patho. I found pharmacology to be super easy and I struggled with patho a little (ended with an A in pharm & B in patho). Take a sigh of relief when I say that professional role development is a complete joke! But it is boring As for skills it really teaches you to not be shy even if you are working with the mannequins. Especially when you do check offs with the instructors. Skills is fun and will be the class where you will meet your program-long friends. Believe me. Skills is always fun and it always feels great to walk around campus on your navy scrubs Simulations can be a little intimidating but you will see that everyone will make a mistake and it will be ok if you make one too. It is a good experience. Skills tests are the hardest compared to any other class because these are the tests we've been warned about having all correct answers but we have to pick the answer that is MORE correct. So we will definitely have to think like nurses! But do not panic, we are taught very well during the semester and most timed we are able to make educated guesses. Trust me when I say you guys will get through it just fine! You guys will be very proud of yourselves by the end of it.
  16. Hey guys sorry for the late response:( To answer your questions about clubs and groups, there are a few clubs in our program. We have South Bay Assembly of Nursing (SBAN) , California Nursing Student's Association (CNSA), Public health Nursing Club (PHNC), Assembly of Nurse Scholars (ANS), and our fraternity Alpha Tau Delta (ATD). I am a member of CNSA and may join ATD this fall. These groups host and attend different events relating to health or nursing in any kind of way on campus or out in the community. I believe all clubs require attendance of at least one club meeting and one volunteer event OR two of either category. However ATD, does require you to be a little bit more involved but they do have great events. Any group is great honestly you just have to find one that suits you :) you may also join as many clubs as you would like. You will be bombarded with information about these groups at your new student workshop, hence why I won't go into detail about them lol. I can only speak on behalf of CNSA since I am a member and I think it is a great option because it is a statewide club so it is well known ( good for resumes!).
  17. Just get titers for everything. Of course if you have not gotten a vaccine for something then definitely get that done. I had gotten all my vaccines when I was younger but I ended up with a negative titer for Hepatitis B. Had I not gotten the titer done I would have never known that I did not have immunity. Even though it may be easier to just upload your vaccine records, just get the titers. It really is for YOUR OWN safety! Just because you've had the vaccine does NOT mean you have the antibodies/immunity.
  18. I actually think you wont be getting your book list until your New Student Workshop. Since you guys have this whole summer before you start, I forget that you guys may not be getting through things as fast as my cohort had to since we started this spring. Have you received date of when your workshop is?
  19. Not really. I would take it easy, it may be the last time you'll be rest for a while lol I'm not sure if you guys have received your book list yet or not, but if you haven't there really isn't much you can do. You could start reviewing drugs for pharmacology because there are alot of things to memorize but you will be okay if you dont, honestly. I didn't study anything before my first semester and I turned out just fine! Haha I will say that it could be beneficial to brush up on your physiology, just to make Pathophysiology a little bit easier. Again, I didn't do this is and it was fine. But I did struggle mostly with Patho this semester, maybe reviewing my physio would have helped but I can't say forsure.
  20. Please feel welcome to do so!
  21. Throughout the whole semester I only recall ONE time where we were asked to bring our textbook to class and we never even used it. Other than that your books are not required to be brought to class and to be very VERY honest, I never opened any of my books during the semester. So I could honestly say that you could get through the semester without the textbooks BUT I do not advise you to NOT get them. Better to have them than not. Especially if you are the type to study from the text alot (which I am not). The only form of text that you will bring to class is your lecture guides for Pharmacology. Fair warning, first semester is going to put a dent in your wallet as far as books and online material (though some of it will be with you for all 3 years and you will not have to pay for them again).
  22. Hey guys! I just finished my first semester in the nursing program and just wanted to drop in and offer my help if anyone has questions. I know that the next few months will be very hectic as you guys prepare to enter your first semester ( been there done that, I understand the stress and how overwhelmed you may be!) and you may have questions you might not know who to ask or maybe want some advice from someone who was recently in your situation. Just thought I'd offer some help because I honestly wish someone in the program would've reached out to me and my classmates lol Congrats and welcome! :)
  23. For the last couple of items on the Castlebranch To-Do List, are we supposed to check Yes or No for the Additional Background Check & Drug Screen? Not quite sure.
  24. Has anyone filled out a declination form for the Influenza Immunization? What did you put for "SJSU Semester Level"? Would I put Spring 2017?
  25. Thank God I'm not the only one that's confused/overwhelmed! First problem, I emailed Dr. Rauch regarding the CPR certification, on the ARC site there are different titles for all the classes and I obviously want to take the right one. Soooo, she said, in her exact words,"CPR and AED for Health care Providers ( BLS)". Okay, so does the basic CPR and AED course, under the HEALTHCARE option on ARC site, not work? And what's the difference between the class titled "Basic Life Support for Healthcar Providers" and the "Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED" class? - In her first response to me she also said to do this after December 10, and since I was hoping to get it over with I then asked why after Dec 10. She said because we cannot have our our credentials expire during the academic year, which makes sense. Here's where she threw me off: she said that she will explain everything in the New Student Workshop..... on Jan 23, 2017..........which is AFTER the due date for everything on CastleBranch. Does she expect us to not get the CPR certification done by the due date on CastleBranch??? So confusiiiinnnnnng - THEN, as I was trying look for a class to sign up for, I noticed the class specifically titled "Life Support For Healthcare Professions" nearest is on Dec. 9 which is obviously not after Dec. 10 like Dr. Rauch had said. HAHAHAHAHA so confusing. I live in Monterey so I wanted something closer by rather than drive out to SJ. But looks like I will be taking the Dec. 10 BLS class in SJ. Second thing, each vaccine has its own upload section on CastleBranch, but I just picked up my immunization record today and theyre all on one sheet. I asked if there were individual records for each individual vaccine and they said no. Okay, so am I going to have to upload my IZ record for each vaccine online?? Doesn't that seem more confusing than just uploading it once? Just because I'm confused about this Im leaning towards just getting titer's done. Maybe Quest will have individual reports. Question: do you think we will need a work order to get the titers done? My mom brought it up and I realized she might have a point. I have my physical on Thurs. at Doctors on Duty since none of the offices in Monterey are taking new patients Either way I plan on just asking for the Doc to grant me a work order, if it's needed. I'm so lost haha
