  1. I'm a Man, Can I be Successful as An OB Nurse

I'm a man who is changing careers to nursing. I'm married and have kids. I thought I wanted to do something like ED nursing, because it is "action packed." I'm in the middle of my OB class, and I love it. I love having kids. I think babies are a...
  2. Bellarmine University Accelerated Nursing 2017

Current Bellarmine accelerated student here. What is the hardest you ever studied? Study three times as hard. It is fast. One bad test, and you are behind the 8 ball. Every class is a priority. Plan to stay in Louisville for a year or two after...
  3. RN shortage

There is a shortage of nurses with BSNs from legit programs who are willing to work the floor. There is a surplus of nurses with dumpster degrees from online or for profit colleges, who don't have the critical thinking skills.
  4. If you're going to violate the laws of the United States and every country you listed in your post, maybe don't give out your name and phone number in the introductory post.
  5. Resigned - New Job Help

Here's a suggestion: "After x period of time at MICU in Fantastic Hospital, I decided that I wanted to expand my skill set by moving to a different facility." The hiring manager understands that you had a conflict with your manager, but you are playi...
  6. Chinese births in U.S. hospitals?

It's in the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, passed after the Civil War. They had to put it in the Constitution because those charming bigots down south wanted to argue that former slaves were not US citizens.
  7. Criminal Background and Becoming a Nurse

Dude, get a lawyer. This is a nursing board.
  8. RN salary in Kentucky

What part of Eastern Ky? Lexington and Appalachia are both in Eastern Ky, but probably very different salaries.
  9. Does the same rules apply to doctors

Two things: 1) Doctors do CPR 2) I've had physicians in my CPR renewal class before.
  10. Gun Owning Nurses

Depends on where you live I guess. I'm in a rural area and during November all the nurses at my clinical site were talking about the start of deer season and hunting.
  11. 90 minutes for a 100 question exam!

If it is multiple choice, it's totally doable. I study a lot and finish 75 questions in about 45 minutes.
  12. Men in Nursing

    This feels like homework.
  13. Clinical site in a dangerous area?

Unless you're in Syria, your fears are overblown. Has anybody from your program assigned to that site been the victim of a crime? You sound like someone who is unfamiliar with big cities. Most crime victims are caught up in the life, buying or sell...
  14. Wannabe MDs in Accel Nursing School

So a rant here. I'm in an accelerated 2nd degree nursing program. Most of the people are awesome, but there's one weird contingent. The people who didn't get into medical school, so they're intent on becoming DNP's. To be absolutely clear, I hav...
  15. Psych rotation and pregnancy

It may also be discrimination. So look at your state's laws on discrimination against pregnant women.
  16. Is one C on my transcript going to kill me?

Check your syllabus, a C- may be a failing grade. Many nursing schools require at least a C to progress.
  17. drug testing

They tested all babies at the hospital where we had our youngest. They gave us a brochure after admission that explained the policy. A nurse told us it was because they had gotten complaints about profiling.
  18. Help - what is the easiest floor to work

You don't want to think analytically about your patient care, you're cold emotionally, you want to sit behind a desk, and you're in it for the money. Have you thought this through, and do you understand what nurses actually do? You can't pass a me...
  19. drug testing

Where I live, they test the meconium.
  20. Veterinary Nurse

Apparently pets have become children, so why not make vet techs into nurses.
  21. Substance Abuse Eval in Texas

It's not extortion. The BON has a duty to make sure a nurse is fit for licensing. Two DWIs is a lot. One is a mistake, two is a pathology.
  22. Unsafe call house

Report the house to the county code inspector. It's uninhabitable.
  23. Building the perfect BON

Better question, what did the BON do to you and why did they do it?
  24. Should i just call it a day?

Med-Surg 2 is very hard. There's a lot of content, and accel means that the content is compressed. Once you get past Med-Surg 2, it gets easier.
  25. So is there really a nursing shortage?

If you read into the data that's out there and the hiring trends, there is a shortage of BSN trained nurses willing to work in acute care facilities.
