I interviewed, was offered job and discussed start date. Six weeks later I got rejection letter. No explanation, no nothing. Keep looking and don't hold your breath. Your never know what goes on behind closed doors. Good luck!

FMLA abuse
I managed FMLA leave a few years back. I can't tell you how many people called in for FMLA for being late 5-10 minutes every day. The ER knew they were late due to dropping kids off at daycare or overslept. I would worry more about opening my mouth, getting found out and finding your car with slashed tires, etc. I would mind my own business. FYI: The ER may ask for a MD note however the courts have generally held that requiring a note for every single absence (like daily) can be considered FMLA interference, but they can request certification to verify the initial need and periodically (every 30 days), especially if paid leave is involved. They can't demand details about your medical condition, just confirmation of the need for leave and its duration.

Virtual Nursing
MDs have been doing virtual evaluations since covid. You can research online what is and is not doable via virtual. I question a lot of documentation by virtual exam, but I also do see that most MDs will document 'unable to assess due to telehealth exam".

Double standards b/w nurses and police officers
They have strong unions, qualified immunity and the Blue Wall of Silence. The tide is starting to change though - people are getting fed up and finding ways to charge abuse.

Anyone allowed to stay on pain management on TPAPN?
Why can't you try to obtain a nursing job in the insurance industry? Most are desk or work from home jobs and you will not be with patient's alone - only on the phone. I am not sure this matters but it is something to consider.

Have Hope.
Congratulations! I am very proud of your achievements as you should also be. Don't let anything get you down. Sobriety is hard work and not everyone achieves it.

Associate degree nurse supervising...
Call the pharmacy and tell them to verify all orders from you with you. I would also let them know what she is doing. She does not have the authority to write orders.

Refused assignment due to patient safety, was I wrong?
I totally agree with your actions. I worked for LTC facility with 37 patients. My DON was supposed to be my second nurse one day and she called out leaving me alone to be charge, medication and wound care nurse, I quit that day - it happened all the time and I was not going to lose my license either.

Do you have access to social worker to look into what Medicare will actually cover and assist with possible transfer? Just keep charting your findings and cover your back. Good luck.

Older Nurse no BSN needs advice
Try an insurance company for worker's comp or medical case reviews. Also, check with local attorney offices - they love nurses that can do pending medical law suits.

Counseling Staff Members On Sick Leave
My brother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and continued working through all his treatment until 2 months prior to his death. His bosses' loved him and supported him throughout his illness. Please, be her friend and support her - work may be the only normalcy she has at this stage. If she cannot perform her job, it would be up to management and HR to advise her.

Sleeping On Unit
I would write up a statement on what happened with the names of those that can back what you were doing, and send it to HR to go along with your write-up. Continue to be you and do your work appropriately. You know the truth and that is all you need. Sorry you are going through this.

How would you deal with a nurse who is struggling to show up to work on time?
Apply for intermittent FMLA to cover your lateness when medical reasoning. I used to review FMLA leave - you won't' believe how many people use it to cover tardiness.

No autopsies allowed for covid positive deaths?
Personally I don't really care whether you believe it or not; how about I send you his mother's phone number and you can get the whole story.

No autopsies allowed for covid positive deaths?
I have a friend who went through same thing though he wasn't covid - the medical examiner said they were too busy (CA) and advised the family they could pay for their own autopsy but would have to be out of their county. The gentleman who passed was only 36 yrs old, post op hernia repair - the mother is devastated.

I called in sick today, they didn't accept it.
Back on my floor days, my 2 year son was admitted to peds for bilateral pneumonia - I called out 48 hours in advance and let them know my son was in the peds unit where I would be staying with him. I was written up for not giving 24 hrs. notice (even though I gave 48 hrs.) and my raise was denied. I gave my notice shortly after.

Quit Job and Now Accused of Abandonment
Many years ago I did walk off my job and quit. I sent 56 pages of staffing lies, things that happened on the floor, pulling staff off floor during a code, I.e. one nurse leaving to have a cigarette when her patient was actively coding, etc. I won my unemployment claim and did not have any charges for abandonment filed against me. You have to do what you have to do to save yourself as nobody else cares.
