    Sexual harrassment and erection situations

Ignore his remarks and do what you have to do the way you would any other patient.

    Sleeping Nurse = No Agency?

If I chart something early as in a I&O or a feeding, I then reset the 2 hours. If nurses are that paranoid about getting the minimum charted, then maybe they should set an alarm to remind the to chart. Every 15 minutes is too much.

    The ridiculousness of LTC/SNF

The first LTC I worked in was wonderful too. I moved and ran into awful.

    The ridiculousness of LTC/SNF

My head is spinning reading what all you had to do. I worked LTC/SNF for the first 3 years of my career. The beginning of this year, I left it because of the stress like this. I went into PDN which I love. I did say I would work PRN at the facili...

    Sleeping Nurse = No Agency?

Reading through this thread has been interesting. I do not fall asleep when working nocs as I am being paid to watch the child and make sure they are safe and receive the meds and treatments ordered. I have only had clients where I could watch tv, u...

Should nurses be able to listen to music at work?

I agree with this. To me, headphones would be the no-no in regards to music.

    Essential Oil Overkill

I use some oils myself, occasionally. I have a problem with those who espouse with oils you can cure all sorts of things. I definitely don't want them used in a facility for the allergy reasons as stated. I would think they would have to ordered b...

Does your agency still use paper charting?

The agency I work for went to electronic charting on tablets that are in each patient's home. The MAR is still on paper. Paper only if needed. Personally, I prefer the tablets. I was with a patient one evening where we picked her up from school a...

LPN/LVN job options. (Current job is making me sick)

I worked SNF/LTC for three years. I have recently gone to Private Duty Nursing for medically fragile children. Right now, the two that I have have g-buttons. I March, I will get the Trach/Vent class and can take on patient with those. So far, I a...

MO RN, where can I NOT get a RN license?

Did she find out where she is going?

    Age related

My last job, I did remind people that I have only been a nurse for less than 3 years and that I am still learning as a nurse as well as the idiosyncrasies of the facility (it wasn't my first job). Really seemed to help and some of the nurses who we...

Sometimes the five rights make us look dumb

I recently had a patient with an unusual name and he told us that on 3 occasions, there was another person with the same name in the same hospital, floor, etc at the same time. He learned he needed to make sure they had the right person as one time ...

What do you do when a patient threatens harm?

Sounds like you handled this situation well. Sometimes a little empathy goes a long ways. Elderly with thin skin is fragile skin as you know. You did a good job there. For those wondering about the patients where she works, I worked LTC and Reha...

MO RN, where can I NOT get a RN license?

If she has an unencumbered license and no issues, she should be able to get a license in any state. Now some may take longer than others. If she were to move to a compact state and that is where she will be living, she will need to change her addre...
  17. You take boards one time. You can hold licenses in many states.
  18. According to the International Section on this page: Texas Board of Nursing - Endorsement it looks like the answer is NO.

Is LVN before RN a good choice?

If your goal is to become an RN, I would recommend the LVN route. Many programs will let LVNs bridge into the RN program. You will also be able to work as a LVN while earning your RN and the pay is greater than a MA. Your work experience will also...

Fox News calls CNA a nurse

You said you were suspicious because of her age. Well, you do know that a 20 year old could be either a LPN or and ADN/RN don't you?
  21. 3 months. A rehab/ltc facility. So many things wrong and so much stress. Doing PRN for them though. I am going to do PDN and maybe combine it with corrections.

    LTC Patient Ratio Unsafe

I just left a LTC/Rehab facility for much of the same reasons though I was night shift with 2 nurses and 4 CNAs for about 80 people. Not only were we to do our work, but to finish up what previous shifts did not complete. All this was on paper. Th...

    Transfering license to another state

When I was moving from Iowa to Texas, I put my Texas address for the license. We had the mail forwarded from Texas to Iowa for the few months we were still in Iowa before actually moving.

Why not pay off the balance? Wouldn't that be a lot less than starting over?

I want to like my preceptor, but...

I have had the opposite of you when starting my job. Some of the nurses seemed to think that since I was older I had years of nursing experience when I haven't even had 3 years. Once they realized this, they started teaching me about situations ins...
