  1. I can see your point there.
  2. Well I know the gossip is out there at this point! Hard to hide your feelings for someone.
  3. We see drug reps daily in the office. Is it ok to date a rep as long as you keep the relationship outside the office?
  4. I work in Informatics now, but I am getting a DNP in nursing followed with the Informatics certificate from DUKE. Booming profession now with everyone trying to implement the EHR.

I just took the exam almost 2 months ago and passed! I have 4 years exp in L&D, nursery and Postpartum. I have been out of OB full time for almost a year and still work PRN while working on my doctorate degree in nursing. I studied some PCEP books and reviewed some AWHONN literature before the test. My test was 175 questions and I finished in about an hour and a half. Good luck to you :)
  6. Hi PAMQ, Radford University in Virginia has a BSN to DNP program that is online. Their address is Radford University Home Page

our docs would be txfring a pt if their plts were close 70!! our facility doesn't have platelets to transfuse on hand. we have to specially order for them and it takes time to get them here. i seen a pt a couple of yrs ago we were txfring and her plts were in the 70's, we sent her down the road asap and as soon as the transport team got through the accepting facilities door she bled out and the baby died. i think she was 24-25 weeks.
  8. I'm due this weekend and still working:)
  9. Irks me bad when the plan includes "please respect my privacy and knock before entering my room"DUH!
  10. I think firing her was over the top. I love to play with our u/s machine. I'm not giving a diagnosis, or a plan of care. Just simply looking at a baby from time to time. We have a portable u/s and frequently use it to verify a Heartbeat if we can't get it with a doppler.
  11. We're in the process of doing this, we're calling our Shoulder dsytocia code "Dr McRoberts".
  12. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE-----working in L&D. Worked in other areas and never want to leave this one :) Sure every job has it's pitfalls, but 99% of the time I'm happy.

you can estimate a due date in seconds the only numbers you care about is 0 and 10
  16. [/color i think it's a shame. there is no such thing as privacy!! administration shoves privacy down your throat every chance they get and yet they are the ones who are the worst for breach of confidentiality. for example: im pregnant. just found out last week. and guess what, everyone in our hospital knows. they are even asking my husband about it, he works there too. people from departments far from mine, who work in medical records. now if thats not alot of bull i don't know what is.
  17. I would call in for sure.

Hmmm, just a thought, but I wonder if you wound be able to check out your own cervix to get a "general" idea, One of the gals I work with said she checked her own cervix when preggo so she wouldn't go to the hospital if not in real labor.:uhoh21:
  19. That is really hefty. Our hospital prn's must do at least 1 shift every 6 months to stay on the schedule. No holidays are required, no weekend requirements either. Which means the nurse gets to work when they want to and not when "we" need them to. Kinda irks me from time to time.
  20. My badge has a large red tab at the bottom that displays RN. Upper mgmt thought patients would like to know who was taking care of them, The only grief I've heard is from the CNA's not wanting to have it displayed I guess b/c some pts thought they were an RN.
  21. I didn't. I feel like I'm not paid nearly enough for what I do on a daily basis. Physical and mental exhaustion..I don't know if you can place a price on that.
  22. I'm LD, PP, and Newborn Nursery :)

Our hospital is wanting to cut our staffing to 2 RN's when there are no pts on the unit, just to save money:nono:. We are LDR not LDRP. Our babies room in with moms. Our delivery rooms are separate from the rest of the unit so when there's a delivery there are 2 RN's tied up for a long time. So, our beef is what if's? How does you hospital staff for ratios and when you have no pts? All it takes is one bad "couple" come through the doors and BOOM! Both are busy and if another comes in who takes care of them? I think we should staff with at least 3. Why not avoid a lawsuit. Sure it costs to pay another RN, but a lawsuit is more costly. Not to mention what about someones baby, you can't bring a baby back. Im scared for the future of nursing esp in OB.

We had a real bad one a while back that 2 Dr's were in the room and one was Very calm and one was hysterical. I was nervous as heck but kept my jets cool. Dr broke the baby's humerus getting it delivered but the baby lived. :)
