AN Announcement
I've been away for awhile? Can anyone tell me, as much as is legal to say that is, what the heck is going on?!

How to react nicely if a patient asks for your social media acct?
I would just say "I want to maintain professionalism and prefer to keep my work and personal life separate." Seems kinda odd. Was this patient long term enough to want to get to know you on a personal level?

Words You Hate
Sputum and feces lol

Inaccurate respiratory rates
I generally trust CNAs. In a critical case or a patient I am concerned with I will do respers myself. I have also noticed with certain CNAS that all my patients had RR of 16. What a coincidence!

Parent Faked Order?
I think you handled it the right way. There is definitely something strange with all of that...

Should I leave this racist town?
I am sorry to hear of this. What your preceptor said is completely unacceptable. I would speak to HR. I will also say this, not everyone who flies the rebel flag is racist. I fly for southern pride and small government. Absolutely nothing racist with my meanings. Sending hugs your way. People are just ignorant and I hope things improve for you.

Nursing is a passion?
I like being a nurse but I would not say it's my passion.

Going back to OB
Sometimes I look at my old school books (if you kept them) to brush up. Do some research and se if they have any continuing education classes on OB in your area. Good luck!

I'm so torn! Stay wth clinic job or take med surg offer?
I'd see if you could keep your clinic job and work PRN on the weekends on med surg. Many of my friends got their foot in the door this way
-
Do you get hit/spit on? Does body fluids splash on you?
it's just part of the job! When I was an LPN at the prison when I first started out in my nursing journey, I got spit on, urine thrown at me, and semen shot at me. Lovely.

Stuck in clinic as a new grad?
I knew a lot of nurses who went to inpatient from the clinic. You are not stuck!
-
What is the nurse-patient ratio where you work?
In my CICU..it's 2:1

New grad starting in the CVICU
I recommend a good cardiac stethoscope. I thank my lucky stars I invested in a cardiac stethoscope that I had only seen doctors have. Prepare yourself, it will be stressful at times and you will lose patients. Soon, you'll be USED to codes. It's perfectly okay to cry. (I cried my first code on CICU) really familiarize yourself with your medications. I agree with the brain sheet idea and really study the cardiac assessment. Know your EKGs!!! I cannot stress that enough.

How do you wash your scrubs?
I put them in their own load as well. I wash on hot and either hang dry or hot dry. The heat will kill any little icky's off my scrubs I also use Tide...always have..always will

MA and LPN in Dr's offices
Here in the Midwest many of the doctors office nurses are LPNs.
- LPNs? What do they do? Where can they work? Difference between LPN vs RN?

Receiving Negativity as an LPN/LVN
Thank you! I love my LPNs!! I was an LPN for 2 years and yes there is a negative stigma. I can remember when I first got my RN, there was an LPN who had been working for 30 years. She was worth her weight in gold. Taught me sooo much. Ignore the hate, of you are happy as an LPN then know that you ARE loved and appreciated!

"How are we doing today?"
I used to work in a prison. Can you imagine the responses I would have gotten saying "honey" or "sweetie"?

Nursing and the supernatural
I say we go with this! Time for a new one! I can't wait to read the comments! :)
-
So...What Kind of Nursing Task Do You LIKE?
Blood draws and wound care!
-
Dear New Grad Nurse
Don't be a know it all. Be respectful and kind. You will get constructive criticism. You will get your feelings hurt. Learn from your coworkers! Nursing school only teaches you the basics. You learn most of your stuff on the job. Stick it out! No one starts with their ideal or dream situation. Gotta work your way there. Good luck! :)
