I dont agree with it either. I never got the flu shot. But sometimes you gotta suck it up
  2. AN Announcement

I've been away for awhile? Can anyone tell me, as much as is legal to say that is, what the heck is going on?!
  3. I would just say "I want to maintain professionalism and prefer to keep my work and personal life separate." Seems kinda odd. Was this patient long term enough to want to get to know you on a personal level?

  6. Words You Hate

    Sputum and feces lol
  7. Inaccurate respiratory rates

I generally trust CNAs. In a critical case or a patient I am concerned with I will do respers myself. I have also noticed with certain CNAS that all my patients had RR of 16. What a coincidence!

  10. Should I leave this racist town?

I am sorry to hear of this. What your preceptor said is completely unacceptable. I would speak to HR. I will also say this, not everyone who flies the rebel flag is racist. I fly for southern pride and small government. Absolutely nothing racist with...

I like being a nurse but I would not say it's my passion.
  13. Going back to OB

Sometimes I look at my old school books (if you kept them) to brush up. Do some research and se if they have any continuing education classes on OB in your area. Good luck!
  14. I'd see if you could keep your clinic job and work PRN on the weekends on med surg. Many of my friends got their foot in the door this way
  15. Do you get hit/spit on? Does body fluids splash on you?

it's just part of the job! When I was an LPN at the prison when I first started out in my nursing journey, I got spit on, urine thrown at me, and semen shot at me. Lovely.
  16. Stuck in clinic as a new grad?

I knew a lot of nurses who went to inpatient from the clinic. You are not stuck!
  17. What is the nurse-patient ratio where you work?

    In my CICU..it's 2:1
  18. Nurses and their pens

I obviously do my serious writing in black..but as for my fun little notes/memos I used a pink sparkly pen. Gotta have some fun! :)
  19. CRAZY / GROSS / NASTY

There was an older gentlemen who was constipated on the Med Surg floor. I went into his room and he handed me a water bottle. He had reached up his bum and pulled out hard pieces of stool and put them in the water bottle.
  20. How to tell the experienced nurse to slow down

I agree that you need to pick your battles. Every nurse has done some mistake. Maybe you caught him at a bad moment. If this becomes a habit..I'm politely say something and be respectful.
  21. New grad starting in the CVICU

I recommend a good cardiac stethoscope. I thank my lucky stars I invested in a cardiac stethoscope that I had only seen doctors have. Prepare yourself, it will be stressful at times and you will lose patients. Soon, you'll be USED to codes. It's perf...
