  1. Do patients know a "good nurse"?

Yes, I agree... our goal is to take care of the whole person. But that (it being an either or situation) is not what I (the OP) said. I did and do take care of the whole person as much as I am able....
  2. I enjoy helping people and also the organizational aspect of it. It's one of the few ways I like to be organized. My house is sometimes very disorganized.
  3. Do patients know a "good nurse"?

If all things were equal, having someone with the gift of gab would be nice. From my experience, at least in the hospital,....if a nurse does all she/he is supposed to do, there really is seldom the...
  4. I am starting to love wound care - am I nuts?

Haha Nah, you aren't nuts! But I think, '...The nastier the better'.., may not be something I could agree with! I do like woundcare
  5. I saw a lot of that training in an ER once. That particular ER was a hell hole. LOL But the agency nurses weren't paid enough for the dumping that was put on them. It was bad...and they were graceful...
  6. Bullying happens, but I wouldn't get in that mind set, if I were you. That is the best advice I can give on this topic. Take each day as it comes. The nurses and docs and PT's, etc., who were actually...
  7. Do you talk to yourself?

I wish I could say, "Yes", but if only you mean silently in my head...then I can say a resounding, "Yes!"
  8. I find this post/thread OP difficult to believe....never having met a "friendly" nurse to date?! Nah....not likely. I think "friendly" can be hard to assess anyway. Some of us (nurses) take our job...
  9. "I don't want to die"

I can just see the paramedics face too! Those guys are usually pretty cool in those situations. lol Glad you made
  10. Nurses have an Attitude Problem

Of course, your statements are generalizations....so, I am enjoying the replies! LOL Some are too funny! Actually though, nurses do know a lot...and if you say something that you believe is true and...
  11. LPNs to RN: does your experience count

Overall, being a LPN for 12 years prior to my RN helped me a little. I think I got half credit for the time as an LPN at my first hospital job where I had started as a LPN...which meant I got the pay...
  12. If you decided to be a RN, think again..

All of it will probably be tiring, but I think private duty (in the home) would be your best bet. One patient. Slower pace most of the
  13. If you decided to be a RN, think again..

It's pretty obvious that entrance exams and application processes are different from one school to another. Way back in the 90's, I took an entrance exam for the ASN program at one school and it was...
  14. You learn something new everyday, they say! This is very NEW to me that taking A&P is an option in at least one nursing program? whew!
  15. I'm in a Quandary

You sound pretty unhappy and it sounds like you want to leave this job. I'd look for a part-time job...maybe back to 3-11. Something less stressful AND more money? From what you said, I'd say the only...
  16. Bedpan? Why not a Poise pad?

Seems like a decent idea, but I have never worked in a hospital that had them in stock....and I have worked in 3
  17. Passing cut offs

Maybe it's because I'm an old bat, but I think the pass cut off should be higher instead of lower. Although book learning isn't everything, when I am a patient, I want a nurse who understands the...
  18. You may have left out some of the details of your experience like exactly how she was not being fair to you. I thought what she said was pretty fair. It is possible, of course, that maybe there were...
  19. I love this! haha Especially the "old nurse
  20. Nursing school too hard on purpose?

Well, I see both sides of this discussion. First thing I remembered was how I was once told by an instructor that we were being strictly over-taught and over critiqued because we would forget some of...
  21. Troll co-worker

Thanks for your responses. It will come in handy, if and when I deal with her or someone like her again. I think I did pretty well on my own. I "killed" her with kindness, although her statements were...
  22. Troll co-worker

We are asked this a lot in interviews: How do you deal with difficult co-workers? I always say just ignore a lot and keep doing my job. Well, that is true...but it doesn't make me feel...
  23. Troll co-worker

Thanks for taking the time to respond as much as you did. You are so right about her. She really is hating herself and that she is still working. She really is someone to be pitied without going into...
  24. What's to complain about?

    P.S. I couldn't put in a sprinkler system...trust me!
  25. Finding a Job

Did you try Indeed.com? I was looking in a new, smaller town and couldn't find much until I looked on Indeed.com. Lots of employers seem to post jobs
