EP1210's Latest Activity

  1. Hi all, I am currently in my second semester of an accelerated nursing program. I am starting to consider my career options once I complete my licensure exam next summer. This is a combined program so I will be starting my doctorate's next fall.. just as I will be looking for work as an RN. The problem is there is no part time track for the DNP, however the semesters are only 8-12 credits. This means my school schedule is going to limit my job search options. I understand most employers like to train new nurses full time. I have a few years experience working as a PCT so I'm particularly interested in working in a hospital setting, but I'm not sure if my schedule will allow for a new grad orientation. My DNP courses will most likely take place in the day time and there is little flexibility unfortunately. I'm not having much luck finding information about residency hours online so I'm hoping someone can offer some insight. I am in the Northern NJ/NYC area. In my experience, I have only seen these orientation programs offered day shift Mon-Fri full time for around 3 months. So, I'm curious if anyone has had a more flexible schedule as a new nurse in the acute setting, or if these type of hours are consistent throughout all new grad residencies? Thank you!!

This is news to me. Thanks for pointing that out. I actually emailed them again for the official figure and haven’t received a response.

I’m curious, where did you find this pass rate? Last time I emailed the school in regards to this figure I was told 92%. The information on the website doesn’t seem to have been updated for the year of 2018.

Are there any particular external scholarships past applicants would recommend applying for?

I think the confusion is that we’re mistaking the merit scholarships with the need-based scholarships. I did not receive the 15k merit scholarship for MDE but I did receive a 28k need-based scholarship. Both of these are an increase from the 8k and 24k awarded to the previous cohort. Whether anyone received both, however, I’m not sure.

Hi everyone! Happy new year and hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! I called in a couple days ago regarding the scholarship applications - based on the previous year’s forum I believe these are the essays they were all filling out. I was told that they are to be completed once decisions are out. At this time the fafsa is all that is due. So I guess all we have to do now is wait...

I received the e-mail. I was hoping for scholarship information also. I understand they will be due shortly, as they have been in past years. Hopefully we'll have adequate time to submit everything.

I have not. I'm waiting for the school to send out specific instructions they may need us to follow. What I'm curious about is if we file a fafsa for this program and then end up going elsewhere, to an absn as opposed to masters program, can the fafsa be altered to match that particular program? It's confusing with each school offering a different degree.

I just e-mailed the school regarding financial aid and was told the due date for FAFSA will be January 7th. They will be sending out an e-mail with more information in the coming weeks. In case anyone else needed to know!

Hi ghazal123, the decisions for the 2019 cohort have yet to be released so a majority of us on this forum have not been accepted. However, from what I have read in forums regarding this program, most accepted students have As and Bs in their prerequisites. It is a minimum requirement for admission. If I were you I would either do my best to bring up the grade (semester is still not over) or consider retaking the course at a community college. If you are truly interested in applying it would be a shame for one course to hold you back.

Congrats on your acceptance! I believe NYU has classes that enter in the Spring and Fall, is there no way to defer your enrollment until the fall? I will be applying to this program also but I am waiting to learn Columbia's decision first.

I'm a little confused. I received an e-mail today stating my application has passed the initial admissions review and is complete. Yet my GRE has not been waived. Does that sound right?
