    np school

Thank you boston for your post i would have to say a decrease in tpr. I am glad the questions are not going to be like nclex because rven though i passed first time w minimum questions i felt like there was the ridiculous qustion types about if a widow is crying do you hand her a tissue or tell her tell me more or schedule social worker visit. Im glad np school is not like that and only one right answer is available. birkiegirl i really hope everything goes well for you. I know your kids are the main motivators for you and after you graduate thay will be super proud. Peace.

Thanks birkie girl. I hear you. I am motivated though i am 27 so i will prob work two more years in the meantime i will read neuroscience and then get the books that will be used in psych np program and read all of them ahead of time. I may have to work another year in addition or so but i think i will just be more confident and knowledgeable while in the program. I have 30 patients each day and all of them are polypharm so i give about 100-200 pills/patches/sprays a day. If i dont know something ima look em up and talk about them to my pts so i remember. I am ready to turn up and you are right we work as nurses and we learn in a way that other med students dont get to. My goal is to keep studying/learning until i knock out the pnp program and then work for a psych ward and work part time in a private practice then transition to a self owned private practice (i come from a family full of lawyers accountants and bussiness administrators and my mom is a software engineer) so i have a whole squad supporting me and a team of lawyers (my dad is a main lawyer that controls 6 other lawyers). They are excited to squad up with me and make sure the practice goes well. I just dont want to let them down so i got my head down in books and if it means i need more time then it is what it is. My pts and fellow nurses tell me i need to be a np and i dont even tell them thats my plan. Im staying humble and taking everyday as a learning experience.

Leaving Social Work to become a Nurse Practitioner

I hope you are in your twenties because it will take at least ten years realistically. You have to be a cna first and work a year as one. Social work is irrelevant. Then get into a two year rn program then get a bsn and that's two years. Or you can go the rn to psych np route to shave a year off your bsn. Meanwhile you better be smart or know all your drugs and conditions ahead of time. That stuff comes with time and experience. You are not going to see anyone just automatically know the side effects of finasteride. You have to give pills everyday see them, see the side effect, contraindications, talk to doctors, talk to pharmacists and then once you feel as if you know a lot (at least 3 years of experience) then you are ready. Buy yourself a neuroscience book read it twice. Then look at the psychnp program and buy the course books ahead of time read them and understand them. Live eat breathe psychiatry and work at psych unit if you can and then you are ready. Lets do some math cna 2 or 3 years rn 2 years then 3 experience while bsn is happening so thats 7 years of school minimum before you can even be ready. Good luck.

What is nurse practitioner program like. How does it compare to nursing school? What kind of questions do they ask you? What kind of training is it? Is it hard for lets say a nurse with 3 years of experience? Please share any insight it would be helpful. Please provide examples of a sample test question or a subject that you had to study and how you had to approach a situation. Thanks. Anything will help.

    rn to psychnp

Nursing home. So i deal a lot with polypharm and death. There is a lot of falls and strokes and hospital and 911 ems interactions. There are a lot of psychotropic drugs involved tho especially for dep and bipolar. Psych np comes in daily. I have a.d.d so i have experience taking ssri's and the whole lot. I understand that working on psych floor is more specific with what im trying to do and i need to switch jobs but it is what it is right now.Thats cool that you found coursework past adn easy. How is msn work different? Can you give an example of a clinical or a day in class and what you were tested on? Thanks for the your comment.

    rn to psychnp

Привет. Hola. Hi everyone. I am considering the fast track program rn to pnp at a university. It will shave off a year off the bsn coursework and transitions into pnp courses compared to a traditional 2 year bsn program then 1 year experience and then applying to psychiatric np program at the university. I have been an lpn for 3 years and an rn for about 2 months. Do you guys think i have enough experience for the psychnp program? I am getting older and am going to turn 28 so this decision is important. What should i expect once past the bsn level into the pnp coursework? I am an average student but have pretty good knowlede of psych meds and issues. Thanks for your time and help your responce is important to me. Peace.

    Being an individual

Very interesting, thank you for posting. I believe that it is important to look good but not too flashy be ause in this profession you have to be quick on your feet radiate warmth and professionalism. I only have 3 or 4 scrubs so...but i keep them clean and iron them and also i have to point out that i take them off before going to grocery store or somewhere. I notice that people wear their scrubs everywhere at the store at a wedding at...everywhere. i come up to them and say are you for real? You are supposed to be the most knowladgeable person about contamination and you act like your in a scrub gang.
