School Wellness Commitees
We have one; it covers all the schools (four) in our corporation. It's chaired by one of the principals. I am on it, as well as a teacher from each of the schools, a school board member, head dietitian, and a high school student. We cover activities and nutrition ideas for both students and staff i.e. opened our buildings for staff to come in and walk, sponsor a walk/ride to school day, things like that.

No EpiPen, No Field Trip?
I still have kids whose parents haven't turned in any allergy paperwork or epipens. I have stock epi to cover them at school but on the field trip it will have to be a 911 call.

Out of State Physician
I have a student starting school with a g-tube who is in a military family; I am in Indiana, the student's GI doctor is in the military and his office is in Texas. Can I take orders from him for the G-tube? Mom tells me he is also licensed to practice in Indiana, although I can't find him on the search site.

Today's Mini Rant
THIS. So many times when I ask what the parent did about the injury that happened last night (or three days ago) I get, "Mom said to have you check it out."

Speaking of summer...
No way! That's one of the main reasons I took this (low-paying) job!

Diabetes
My kinder T1 has a lunchbox-type bag that goes with him everywhere he goes. It has his meter and supplies and his fast-acting carbs (typically two juices, a glucose gel, and glucose tabs) as well as his Glucagon, and a pocket on the outside for his Dexcom receiver. Works well for us.

Puberty Program
Does anyone do the growing-up talk in fourth grade? My P&G program materials just came so we are doing the talk next week, but for a lot of girls, it's closing the barn door after the horses are out. I will for sure do the program without the samples etc next year and then hand them out when they arrive, but wondering if anyone out there does it in 4th grade.

What's the oddest thing you've done for a student?
Unzipped his eyelid from his fleece shirt...

PG Supplies and Educator Kits arrived
I ordered in November 26 and haven't got it yet. We usually have "the talk" the day before spring break, and that's next week!
-
Why two weeks?
If lice die off the host in 24 hours, why does everything say to bag things up for two weeks?? Even the CDC website.

EpiPens for Schools
My regulars came, but not my juniors.

Student and weight loss advice?
That was, of course, what was running through my head!

Student and weight loss advice?
A parent asked about nutritional and weight loss information/assist for her overweight son. What would you do with that?

EpiPens4Schools
Did you all see that some of the Epipens have had their expiration dates extended? You might take a look if you haven't received yours.

EYES!!!
Does that work for near and distance acuity requirements? When I talked to a Lion's Club gentleman who was here to do Pre-K with the spot screener, he said they are only supposed to do up to age 5; however, I know a nearby district has the Lions do their K.
-
I would really love....
I have two of these. Exactly one shot left for k-5. I am certain in both instances that it is because they got a letter that said their student would not be allowed to attend past XX date without it, so now they are religiously opposed in order to prove that "YOU'RE not the boss of ME!"
