About Michael M. Heuninckx

Michael M. Heuninckx specializes in Emergency Department.

I never thought about the paths that my nursing career would have led me down, but so far, they have been more rewarding and exciting than I ever could have imagined. My experience as a Registered Nurse has all been in the arena of the Emergency Department.

Here I have had the pleasure to care for individuals from all walks of life and from every age group across the lifespan. Through this time, I have gained a new perspective on life. I have learned that anything can happen to anyone at any time. We all are blessed with every day we are here on this earth, and this should never be taken for granted. This is best summed up with a quote by Augusten Burroughs..

Quote

"When you have your health, you have everything. When you do not have your health, nothing else matters at all."

My experience in the Emergency Department has lead me to continue my education and pursue an advanced nursing degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. My mission as a Family Nurse Practitioner will be to connect with the community about the importance of health promotion, prevention and safety. It is my hopes that through this my patients will: have a longer and increased quality of life, decrease the number of preventable visits to the Emergency Department and they will be motivated to take an active role in their overall health.

In the midst of all of this, I started writing for allnurses.com. Here I am able to spread words of wisdom, encouragement and experience to fellow members of the nursing community.

To me, it is amazing that my writings will be able to be read my nurses around the world. I am excited to see what the future holds for my current projects along with the future when I pair my Family Nurse Practitioner education with my entrepreneurial spirit. Only time will tell, but I could not be more excited for the journey.
