AMeN. That's the bigggg issue for me. I want to go home. We have 12 hour units but the pay is worse over the long term. If you pick up a 24 you make 24hr pay so there's really no incentive. Plus where we work the employer mandates additional shift on...
  2. Does Medic Experience Count?

It is an absolute nightmare. We use zoll EPCR which is a great program but man, trying to put down every single little intervention right on the time it happened is crazy. We have all kinds of tricks to keep track of everything but in the end its all...
  3. Does Medic Experience Count?

Absolutely! Thanks for your kind comments. Believe it or not we too have a TON of charting. Literally after every call I have to sit down for at least an hour on just a random CP or SOB or something like that. Now, a CODE is a completely different be...
  4. Does Medic Experience Count?

Oh yea that's great to know. I was under the impression they were very similar in practice, autonomy and salary. I understand the curriculum is quite different but I honestly haven't looked that far ahead yet in the curriculum because my theory is on...
  5. Does Medic Experience Count?

Sure, I would love to do 12's. And I realize it may run to 14's but I just want to see my bed at my house before the next morning. And granted my son may already be out but it would just be nice to be there. I get to work at 7am and leave for calls ...
  6. Does Medic Experience Count?

I would say much more than medics. If you do a simple google search of "nursing lobbyists" vs "paramedic lobbyists" wow its a huge difference. You see alot of foreign support for paramedics in their own countries, i.e. australia, new zealand, etc.. b...
  7. Does Medic Experience Count?

Wow, Thank you for your comments. After reading all the posts I feel like I'm just going to take an ER job, for now. I'm in a BSN program so hopefully that will give me more options once I finish (crna vs pa). . Because your right. The autonomy thing...
  8. Does Medic Experience Count?

Your example was very good. You paint a great picture of the evolution of patient care. More stable and lobbied means there are far more jobs and always will be; and laws that support the nurse and protect the nurse that paramedics don't get, this li...
  9. Does Medic Experience Count?

I appreciate your feedback. I live in East Texas. Sounds like I need to get a nurse job! I will say also that I use the nursing process every day on the ambulance and have been since the beginning. They don't teach the nursing process in medic schoo...
  10. Does Medic Experience Count?

Hey there, I'm new to the forum but love the blogs/educational opportunities and discussions and hope to offer as much help as I received here during nursing school. I just had a question. I've been a medic for about 8 years. Has anyone had any expe...
