We had a GI doctor that chastized our baby nurses for just putting the Patient had a BM. I wrote: Patient had a copious amount of brown, bright red, black semi-soft to solid-hard (rock-like) feces. The Patient strained to the point of vasovagal reaction to produce BM. Could not flush down the toilet maintenance called to clear the blockage. Provider notified, will write new orders.

I am Faculty at a private-for-profit college; I teach in the LVN program, either 12 months full-time or 15 months part-time nights. Both programs are fast-paced. Students are actively engaged in Theory/ Clinical Learning Lab, Simulation Lab, and Clinical sites. We encourage our students to stay actively involved in all aspects of their education, and one focus is critical thinking versus task performance. The college also has an LVN-ADN program, BSN and MSN programs. The college is rapidly expanding to different states/locations. Due to a faculty shortage, we have students waiting to attend; the pay isn't competitive with PRN positions in the industry, so many candidates walk away. So how about improving our income also. Another aspect would be recruiting from the high schools; many districts already have agreements with local colleges for students to attend college-level courses and receive credit. Make it mandatory for colleges to accept those courses if they meet the state accreditation standards.

What does your textbook say? Do they want you to demonstrate manual versus pump? We use manual setups when we do not have IV pumps available. In addition, you should be able to calculate the drip rates correctly; pumps can malfunction also. Where are you getting the list of secondary lines that are must not share?

WIth HCA contract, you can complete the contract at any HCA facility, so perhaps just transferring to a different unit/facility would have worked for you. I have seen that multiple times at the facility I worked at.

Why did she not have her own keys? Were you drug tested after the incident? (CYA)! Write down the events of the day while they are still fresh in your mind. State only the facts. Keep this for your records sometimes these investigations can take a while.

What are you in high school? This in incivility at it's best and will not be the last time you encounter it I am sure. Is there an age difference in this group? Can you be assigned to another group that would be better suited for you? Nursing school is hard enough without all of that crap going on. You be you and concentrate on your end results, becoming a safe, compassionate, self-sufficient nurse. You got this keep going, leave them behind. Find other classmates outside of this group to work with.

Perhaps you could put together an example schedule for 90 days, have your peers look at it and get their input then present it to the Director for consideration. Make sure to include holidays, PTO time. Consider fiduciary responsibility also.

Phlebotomist vs CNA stress level would be less as a phlebotomist. I believe they also make more money? I agree working as a CNA can open doors for future nursing positions and help develop skills. Make sure that if you are performing tasks while working as a CNA that are RN's tasks that you have permission from your facility (in writing) as this is a liability issue should something go wrong.

Wow, what a shame. I am wondering how this situation got so blown out of proportion? Was the instructor at the review process? What was the story relayed to the other panel members? And were there any of your peers on the panel for review of the situation? Has there been tension with this instructor? Were staff at the clinical site involved, i.e. was it discussed with anyone on staff, if so in what context "medication error"? When I was in ADN school we had two incidents with an instructor who targeted students. She literally got one student removed from the facility and expelled from the program. She literally had two other students in tears and afraid to come to clinical. Since you are in your first semester do you have options for another school?

Call on our floor is based on staffing only. The order of who to put on call starts with PRN employees, then Core, people in overtime are asked. They will consider people who volunteer also. They keep a log of who is placed on call, floats, code team to try and keep things fair.
