  1. Don't get me started with semi-private rooms. I visited family members who had the roommates from you know where. The old man who kept urinating over the bedrail, the cougher who kept coughing up stuff. The alzeheimer patient who kept putting his n...
  2. RUDE pt and spouse=everyone fired from care!

I've been on the other side. Patients do get tired of having to explain exactly how treatments, turning, dressing changes etc. need to be done. It seemed that everyone did it differently when they came into my room. They all ask the same questions ...
  3. Air Embolisms by Central Line Removal

If the patient doesn't want to lay down flat, then I don't take it out. I will explain to the patient why I would do it and usually 10 out of 10 times they will do it if they know why.
  4. Do you have an isolation room where they could be, away from the other patients? Maybe give them some rules, in and out 3 times only, maybe. I feel for you.
  5. Had my interview Figured u guys would be interested :P

What kind of position were you interviewing for? :)
  6. HELP!!! Has anyone done this? Advice needed

Go for it!! If you are unsure about leaving, can you keep working prn at the old place for a while? That will give you a foot back in the door without having to reapply. Sometimes change is better.
  7. You might work nights for a while, thats what I did. Have your husband get them ready in the morning. Do they catch the bus or walk or do you take them? Maybe a neighbor could take them with hers. Work like weekend option, fri, sat, sun or sat, sun, ...
  8. I dont want to do this anymore!!!

Try the post partum floors, less stress, less high paced. New born nurseries is nice, but don't get into NICU--too high stress. You might like teaching--like for new nurse assistants etc. Insurance companies like to have nurses to audit charts. On t...
  9. pt's arm turning white and red with IV?

I agree with unikuelady. always dc if you feel it isn't right, it probably isn't
  10. Great performance review/poor raise

That's about what it is at my hospital and usually the eval is late, but the back pay is nice in a lump sum.
  11. want to help out a friend BUT.....

Oh, that just makes me mad. Yes, she thinks she can get it for free and she will. If she is working full time at the hospital, then she has insurance on herself. She doesn't want to pay the co-pay for it, she wants to spend that money on herself. ...
  12. Please Read (knee surgery)

This really tells people about the importance of insurance. Try to at least have some with a hugh deductible on the wage earner. I'm so sorry for you all. Do you have family members that could help you? How far are you in your nursing program? Aw...
  13. Anyone take out $50,000 per year to live?

Sorry, I didn't see that it was crna school, but just remember, the more you make the more you spend sometimes and it will still be hard to pay all that back later even if you do make more money. What kind of work does your husband do?
  14. Anyone take out $50,000 per year to live?

YOU want to be in that much debt for how long? 30 or 40 years to get caught up. I want you to just think about how long that it would be for you to pay it off. Your children are so young. They need their mother and I am sure if you went to school th...
  15. Please help ASAP! Need patient care info!

I also think that you need to get your CNA training. This is too big of a undertaking for you. (I'm thinking that you are very young). ITs a lot of work and responsibility. (I know I am taking care of a relative). If something goes wrong, you will be...
  16. PLEASE HELP! What should I do???

Why don't you just wait and raise your children until they are in school and then go back ,or were you working also? I think children need their mother more when they are little. Enjoy them now, and nursing later. It would be less stress on you and ...
  17. Lactaction consultant on my 3rd baby

If she came in with this one, I would just say--"I'm a pro at this now since this is my third breastfeeding baby and I remember all your help from the last two babies and I will call you if I need you. Thank you, very much. If you need to see the bab...
  18. cloth vs disposable diapers

I started using cloth diapers with my first, and found out that I hated to rinse the dirty ones in the toilet. I started throwing those out. Then went to the disposible ones--much nicer if you are working a lot, less diaper rashes.
  19. families with clipboards/notebooks

I make notes all the time and sometimes others do to in the hospital. They do it for various reasons, hopefully to help them to remember later. Just do your best if they are taking notes. I had someone in the hospital lately and I did that, but after...
  20. Still Breastfeeding

Do like they did on "Desperate Housewives" on TV. There was a woman at one of the housewives work who was still nursing her 5 year old and everyone thought that she should quit. The "housewife" gave the little boy a carton of chocolate milk and after...
  21. Diploma Trained Nurse?

It's a 3 year hospital based program. Mine was 1 year academics in a community college and 2 years clinicals. I don't think there are many of these around anymore. Mostly 2 and 4 year programs.
  22. Public Breastfeeding

Just started to read this thread. I was in a fast food place my teenage son was across from me with his back to the table where a woman who who had a tiny baby, completely lifted her blouse and with both breasts hanging out put the baby on the breas...
  23. Med Error

I'm sorry for the nurse, but that's very serious for that poor patient more so.
  24. Is This True? (extra coccyx bone, tail?)

Don't laugh. I have seen babies born with tails and they do look a little funny. They are not very long. They remove them later.
  25. Diabetic in the public

Just what I was going to say yvonnemuse. Get the frosting tube. A relative of mine is diabetic and thats how they get.
