There's no way to prep for the program. They send you a large envelope with papers that contain information about all the extra things you have to pay for like the background check, books, lab supplies, uniforms, etc. Orientation is also the day before the first day of school, so.. there's really no way to prepare haha. Add the lecture classes before the quarter begins because the syllabus will be up a few weeks before class. I would say get started on the reading if you can. Order your books before class starts because you will need them & it's always best to get the same edition your professor uses (usually the newest).

The material isn't difficult, it's studying that is the hard part. People come in having had straight A's and they have to get used to getting B's for possibly the first time. You have to figure out different study habits until you find out one that works. You really have to read the textbook which is time consuming because you read so much material on one little section and get like one test question on it. It's true what you see in those nursing memes. Your test questions will usually have at least 2 correct answers, but there's one answer that's better than the other. Besides that, the experience is great! I like how they don't have clinicals the first quarter so we really get to know the fundamentals before going into hospitals. I also think we're all becoming a family :)

Hi, just finished up my first quarter as a CSULA nursing student & I have never studied so hard in my life to get just ok grades. Just so you know, I am one of the people who was waitlisted and got accepted. I had 24 points. But, also know that righteousjenn was accepted also & had 23 points. Another thing to keep your hopes up is that there are 58 students this year, meaning there were 2 spots left that were never accepted. I'm assuming it's due to a lot of people declining their spot & there wasn't enough time to accept others before fall classes began.

information on the entrance exam can be found by googling "bsn kaplan information mount st. marys" they accept 10 transfer students out of over 200 applicants. so yeah.. it is pretty difficult to get in, but it's always good to try

Yes, I am a continuing student. My registration date was on July 25th 6AM. When I tried to add classes, it would not let me so my friend went to talk to you know who and wrote my name down for me so she can give me permission to add the lecture courses.

I was able to register for only 3 of the 5 courses, aka the lecture courses. The lab courses will be added the day of orientation I believe.

I know what date I'm allowed to register. I wasn't sure if I could enroll in the nursing classes, but I emailed you know who and she responded saying that I should be able to enroll for the lecture classes.

From past years posts, I've heard we weren't allowed to register for classes until we attend orientation which is the day before the first day of school. Also, the nursing classes say that you must be in the nursing program in order to add the class, but my major still says my back up major... So, I wouldn't be able to add any classes anyways during registration week.

In the United States nursing programs, CSULB ranks #193 & CSULA ranks #79. CSULA is #2 in los angeles. Both have high pass rates. CSULB has a nicer campus. I heard CSULB is harder to get into than CSULA though. Congrats on getting into both. I know someone who got into CSULA but not CSULB, but people who got into CSULB most likely got into CSULA as well. Whatever school you choose, at least someone from the wait list will be admitted for the other school.

Okay, I just think that when it turns to semester it'll be the regular fall courses we need to take plus half the courses from the following winter. Then spring will be the other half of winter courses plus the regular spring courses.

BTW, the guy I talked to on Monday is the same guy I handed my acceptance letter for admission today. He told me that right after he talked to me on Monday he mailed my acceptance letter. He just couldn't tell me while we were talking, but he knew the whole time!

In a normal full-time semester system, people take 5-6 classes. In a quarter system, people take 3-4 classes. Since quarter is faster, you need a smaller load. Since semester is longer, it's easier to take on more classes. But both still complete the same amount in one year.

just keep waiting! The fact that I got my letter before the accept/decline deadline means that they could just be sending a few letters everyday.

@HeyYouNotYouYou, did you calculate your total points for the CSULA program? The program is based on a point system. If you look at their website there is a link to how the school calculates your points. The highest points gets in. This time, people with 24 points and above were accepted and people with 23-24 points were wait listed. There is another thread going on about this specific school if you click the "U.S." tab and then "California Nursing", you should be able to find the CSULA thread.

I see. I say you submit a copy of your current transcripts and send another one after the spring semester. CSULA is known for losing paper work like transcripts.

I don't know what bp is. But Health and Human Services is the name of the college in CSULA. That college contains multiple majors from health science, public health, and includes nursing. Also, do you have any holds?

I spoke with the guy at the nursing office today. He said he reviewed my file and that I have 24 points. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to tell me where I am in the list or how many people were on it. At least I know my points for sure now. Just going to have to wait and see if I get in or not.. If people on this forum had 24 points and got accepted, then the cutoff was 24. Some 24s got accepted, some got wait listed. It would be weird that exactly 60 people got 24 points and above and the 61st person had 23. They had to cut it off at the middle somewhere. But he also told that the majority of the people accept to go to this school for the nursing program. He was just the nicest person there. I'm just glad I'm less stressed about my point situation.
