  1. I felt the same. Took the test super fast, shut off at 75. I kept over analyzing the questions I had and felt that they were in no way “passing level” questions. But I did pass. Take a breath, get your mind off of the test and you’ll find out in a couple days!
  2. Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any tips that helped them switch from a clinical nurse to being in research. I have 3 years of experience in the OR, but really want to make the switch into research. However, with no research experience it has been a slow process. I have been applying for jobs (Clinical Trials Assistant, Clinical Research Coordinator, etc.) with no luck. Not even an email back ? I live in the Raleigh-Durham area, so while there are plenty of research companies and hospitals, there are also plenty of applicants for these jobs. If anyone has any feedback/advice I would love it! Thanks!
  3. I was just hired to a hospital in February as a new grad to the OR and they teach us to scrub and circulate. Though it is known that as nurses we will be circulating more they want us to be able to be able to do both when necessary. My hospital does employ a good amount of STs, I would say the mix is abut 40:60 ST to RNs. I also think having that skill makes me a better circulator as well. We have about a 8-9 month orientation and the first month was mostly shadowing and classroom time. I would definitely suggest looking for a hospital that will teach you both as it is very beneficial!
  4. Hello all! I took the NCLEX-RN today at 8am, the test shut off at 75 questions and I am SURE I failed. I feel as though the questions that I was getting were not 'passing level' and just a general horrendous need to throw up when I left. I took about an hour to get done with the test (I am a quick test taker), not a ton of SATA (maybe 1/4-1/3) and just what seemed to be general knowledge and comprehension questions. I tried the PVT tonight around 6pm with a used visa gift card and got a 'good' pop-up (aka: "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time."). Since its Friday I do not anticipate quick results being available till Tuesday (But one can hope!) Praying that I did pass, as I have a job lined up to start early February, but hope is a dirty four letter word and am not getting my hopes up. I will update once I know more!
  5. Did you end up staying at Duke Raleigh?! I would love to hear about your experience there!
  6. Hello all! I am graduating in December of 2016 with my BSN from Belmont University in Nashville, TN! However, I am planning on moving back to Raleigh, NC which is where I am originally from and where I am still a resident. I have a couple questions that I could use help with. Will it be easier for me to take the NCLEX in Nashville, get a TN license, and then transfer my license to NC when I move? I've read some things about the NC BON being particularly difficult to manage when coming from an out of state school. Both TN and NC are compact states. Also I am planning on applying to the major Triangle area hospitals including Duke, UNC, Rex, and Wake Med. These are the ones that I'm thinking of off the top of my head, but let me know if I'm missing any! I want to go into critical care, preferably the CICU or MSICU but am also open to other areas. At the time that I move back I will have had a little over a year experience as a tech at an HCA facility in Nashville on an Ortho unit. I did have my CNA1 in North Carolina but will not have had used it since Summer '15. My GPA at the end of the semester will be around a 3.5 and I'm a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honor society. I'm wondering how likely it will be that I will get hired at one of these hospitals! Thanks guys!
  7. Thank you so much, this clears up a lot! Now I guess I just have to wait and see if I get in! Cross your fingers for me! :)
  8. Hey ya'll! I am applying to transfer from my current four year college to Belmont University in Nashville to start the clinical portion of the BSN program. I just wanted to put my stats out there and see if anyone has an idea of what my chances will be like to get in. After this semester I'll have 65 credit hours and as of right now I have a 3.42. My pre-req GPA is 3.2 right now though I'm still in the process of taking A&PII. My SAT was an 1820. I just want to get a feel for where I stand because I have been falling more and more in love with Belmont the more I look into it! Thanks and I appreciate any help I can get!
