  4. Questions about cervical competancy...

Here is a forum that may be helpful! http://bbs.babycenter.com/board/pregnancy/pregcomplications/1252536 The good news is that you made it to term with your prior pgs., but it would still make sense to take some precautions. I would ask the dr. to g...
  5. Uterine rupture & maternal code

What a tragic, tragic story. How absolutely heartbreaking, I can't imagine living with the knowledge that I didn't get help for my baby. Anyway, sorry to take this thread on a tangent, I am the one who made the VBAC comment. I have comforted a frie...
  6. ques. for L&D nurses.(Long)

It was painful, but also the most amazing wonderful experience and I have never felt closer to my husband. It was not horrible for me at all.
  7. Uterine rupture & maternal code

I realize there are lots of people reading this forum looking for advice, but I personally am not a casual uninformed reader...I am a nursing student and a mother of 2 and I have discussed this issue at length with my OB and MFM. And I really believ...
  8. Uterine rupture & maternal code

    Yes, I totally agree.
  9. Uterine rupture & maternal code

Thank you for your concern. I did make the intial decision based on statistical risk given my own particular history. The anecdotes merely served to reinforce my prior informed decision.
  10. Uterine rupture & maternal code

Although I strongly believe that women should have the right to make an informed choice for VBAC, this thread has firmly reinforced my decision to do a scheduled repeat c/s in a future pg. Very scary stuff.
  11. When pt is refusing a C/S

OK, well I know this is OT...but I just can't let this go...please remove it if you need to...but, it is *not* illegal to have an abortion after 20 weeks. Every day all over the country babies with Down syndrome are aborted up until 24 weeks. And I...
  12. OMG, I saw the same episode. Why on earth is she having a baby? I understand sometimes the best thing for a woman is to go back to work--but when the baby is TWO!!!!!! weeks old? I just feel very, very sorry for that baby. That lady is in for a ...
  13. Trisomy 18 question...

My understanding if it was "typical" T 18, that the risk of recurrence is 1 in 100 for all trisomies. But yes, I am sure the OB would suggest a genetic consult prior to a future pg. Shannon
  14. ? About not breastfeeding

That is awesome that you have been able to provide breastmilk to your child for so long! Exclusively pumping is a huge committment--I did it for 4 months before my 33-weeker with Down syndrome got the hang of nursing. I was never so happy as the da...
  15. Interesting article

    How terribly heartbreaking.
  16. I.E: The smell and the texture? Thank you!
  17. What type of patient

Thanks for the replies re: parents. Gompers, personally I don't see why it would be a debate, I thought what you said was perfectly reasonable! It seems like it would all be common sense and just normal respectful behaviour. I guess it is unfortun...
  18. What type of patient

So from a NICU nurses perspective, what is the definition of a "nice parent"? Just curious as we will be TTC in the next year, and there is a possibility of another NICU stay. Shannon
  19. We had a mom code last night!!

What a horrible, tragic situation! How terrible to lose a baby, and I am sure that (hopefully) when she recovers that will make the loss even more difficult not being able to have seen or held baby etc. The poor father must have been terrified. My...
  20. Help understand Betamethasone

This thread has been helpful to me too. Although it still makes me nervous to get it too soon if you don't end up needing it then...I would like to know under exactly what circumstances it should be given, but I realize every case is different. Tha...
  21. Care of High Risk Antepartum Moms

Well, bed rest is one of the most difficult experiences I have ever had, and hospitalized bed rest for 6 weeks was even harder. I only had to be on mag at the beginning of my hospital stay for 48 hrs. After the original horribleness of it for the f...
  22. Help understand Betamethasone

I am not a nurse yet, but here is my personal experience: 1st pg., received 2 shots every week starting (I think) at 26 weeks--delivered at 32 1/2 (approx. can't remember exact gestation to the day). Baby had no respiratory issues and came home in 1...
  23. Fetal benefits of staying pregnant longer ...

Mag is truly horrible stuff. But honestly, as bad as it is, it is still a million times better than preemie twins in the NICU, more drs. visits when they finally get home (for synagis etc.), worry about their health, and guilt for not sticking it ou...
  24. ? For those who do C-Sections often

My husband has a pretty weak stomach and managed to make it through a vaginal birth and a c-section without fainting. I am sorry, but I think he does need to suck it up and be there for his wife. They can have him sit on a chair by your head and he...
  25. Co-sleeping?

I had the same experience...dropped my baby while nursing in the rocker b/c I was so overexhausted from traipsing back and forth to the nursery all night because I was determined not to co-sleep. I wish I would have just accepted sooner that everyon...
