Thank you @bionicRN and @sc128 for your helpful responses! I'm going to try to get my completed paperwork scanned onto a computer to email it back; if not I'll just bring the original papers to my appointment. @bionicRN, I hope work has been going well for you and @sc128, have a great first week!!

Question for @bionicRN and @sc128 - did you complete and return your new hire packet via email/fax to your point person prior to your appointment? I can't fill out/type in the boxes on the PDF on my computer nor do I have easy access to a fax machine...wasn't sure if they require us to complete this prior to coming in (I will find a way if necessary), or if I can wait until my appointment.

@sc128, thank you for your response! Very helpful in letting me know what to expect and prepare for along this process. I sent another follow up email to my point person this morning and they reached out this afternoon; my appointment for physical and paperwork will be in around a week and half. Glad to finally have this scheduled. I honestly should be in no rush considering how far away my start date is, but I guess I just like to check off things on the to-do list as soon as possible! Anyway, enjoy your last week off before orientation!!

Hi @humblenurse12, first off congrats on getting through to this point! I had to email repeatedly (to multiple people) before my interview with the nurse manager was scheduled. I met with the recruiter on Nov 6 and didn't get notified for my interview with the NM until the 19th, so almost two whole weeks. I don't think it would hurt to call and inquire too!

Hope you all had a great holiday weekend! I received the official offer letter earlier this week! :) So happy and relieved. Thanks for all the well wishes. I still have to get my physical and paperwork done but I'm having some difficulty getting in contact with the person who is supposed to schedule my appointment...seems like all my emails go unanswered. A little frustrating because I just want to complete all the steps necessary along this process as soon as possible. @sc128, did you encounter any difficulties with this? Also, thank you for reminding me to renew my BLS certification! Mine is expiring soon too so I went to a class on Tuesday. And I'll be in the January orientation! So excited for you to be starting in less than 2 weeks!

NYU hiring process
Thank you everyone for the wishes of good luck! I had my interview this morning! It was a panel interview with the NM, an RN, and a PCT. A little nerve-wracking and intimidating! They did a lot of talking, mostly explaining about the unit, the type of working environment, what challenges new nurses will face, but also what resources are available to support us throughout the process. A lot of emphasis was placed on the importance of being honest, keeping open communication, and how every member is considered as an equal amongst the team. They asked me about why I want to work on this particular unit, what I would be able to contribute/offer, and how I would fit in. They also asked me to explain what having Magnet status at NYU meant to me. I can't remember exactly what I responded for these questions as it was all spontaneous and borne from adrenaline, but it must have gone well because at the end of it all the NM asked the RN and PCT if they would recommend me for the position, and they both said yes. The NM then said she would be recommending me for the position as well (and wouldn't have asked the RN and PCT in front of me if she wasn't going to). I'm very excited, but will be holding my breath until I receive that official offer! Considering it is a holiday week, I don't know how soon I will hear back from HR. No matter what happens, I want to thank every one of you on this thread for all the advice, insight, and words of support and kindness throughout this whole process. I don't think I would have made it this far without everyone's help. I find it comforting to know that I may soon be working amongst such amazing nurses as you all are. :)

NS81, I'm so happy to hear that they finally reached out to you too! Excited that we're moving forward to the next step - now the rest is all up to us. I'll be sure to let you know what happens

@sc128, congratulations on the offer!! Glad to hear that your interview went so well, I can only hope mine will go similarly. Thank you for sharing the interview questions and about your experience, I really appreciate it. I'll keep you updated!

Yes, I did finally hear back! Only after pestering the staffing office, as I was getting worried I might never hear anything. They told me it was taking longer to schedule the interviews as the nursing managers are getting busy with end of the year evaluations and such. Nonetheless, my interview is scheduled for next week right before the Thanksgiving holiday! Will let you guys know how it goes. @sc128, would you mind sharing what sort of questions the nurse manager asked during your interview? I've heard a mix of responses from other people who have interviewed at NYU. Some people got grilled tough during their interview, while others didn't get asked much at all and practically got offered the job from the start. It probably varies by unit and manager, so I still want to be well-prepared!

The recruiter told our group that they were definitely going to have a January orientation, but were deciding whether to hold a December orientation as well. They mentioned that if they ultimately decided to include a December orientation, then things would probably progress forward rather quickly. We haven't heard anything regarding second interviews yet though, so perhaps they've decided to just have the January orientation...

I know, I'm super nervous too! Every time I practice answering some of the possible interview questions I realize how much of an idiot I sound half the time, haha

Hi sc128! The career battery assessment did have a set number of questions (I've forgotten how many, but I don't think you'll run out of time) but I don't think it works like the NCLEX exam does where your next question is determined by how you answered the previous one, etc. Here are some links to previous threads that discuss more about the assessment and what it entails, hope it helps! Good luck with everything! https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/nurse-career-battery-634225.html https://allnurses.com/nursing-career-advice/nurse-career-battery-332451.html https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/what-da-heck-535709.html

@NS81, haven't heard anything back since they asked for my availability... they got me all excited/nervous thinking things were going to be happening really quickly! From what I've heard, no one else from the info session I went to has gotten scheduled for that second interview yet, so I guess things are just moving along a little slower than initially anticipated. Any exciting news on your end?

bionicRN, thanks for the words of support and positivity. Much appreciated! Glad to hear it from someone who successfully made it to the other side. Hope you had a great first week at NYU!

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have such a great experience with the recruiter. Definitely surprising and unfortunate since the people we met with yesterday were so friendly! Nonetheless, that's great that you'll be moving on to interview with nurse managers! Hoping that things will work out for the both of us :) Keep me posted!

Hope everything went well today, NS81!! I'm still anxiously waiting for them to let me know when my scheduled interview with the nurse manager will be

NYU hiring process
Hi NS81, thanks for checking up on me! My experience today was almost exactly like how bionicRN detailed it at the beginning of this thread. We were a group of around 8-10 new grads and they explained more about the nurse residency program, salary/benefits, etc. Then they administered the dosage calc test (which was easy! don't stress about it, the questions were exactly like the ones from the provided study sheet). Afterwards we each had a brief one on one session with one of the recruiters. The recruiter I met with was super friendly and basically only asked me a few questions: why I went back to school for nursing, how I enjoyed my clinical rotation at NYU, and what unit specialties I was most interested in. The following step is to set each of us up on a second interview with nurse managers, ideally in one of our preferred units. They seem to be moving along the process rather efficiently; I already received an email this afternoon asking about my availability in order to set up a meeting with one of the nurse managers! Good luck tomorrow!! Everyone we met at the recruitment office was very friendly and they really seem to want to help us be successful along this whole hiring process. Sending you positive thoughts!

Well, thanks for the inside info as always. Good luck on your first day! Hopefully I will be joining you soon...

Thank you, bionicRN! I am very nervous but excited about this opportunity! Just wondering, do you know if everyone who attended the initial interview/info session you went to regarding the nurse residency program ultimately get placed/hired on a unit?
-
NYU hiring process
Yes, I am a new grad. I think the preview day is just for new grads, so you're probably not missing out on anything if you've already been working as a nurse! Good luck on your interview!! :)
-
NYU hiring process
NS81, did you receive an invitation to the Nurse Residency Preview day on this coming Wed the 6th? They told me to come to that instead of my initially scheduled interview in 2 weeks.
-
NYU hiring process
Yay!! I'm excited for both of us! Good luck to you, too! I have no idea what 'exploratory' interview implies, but I'm going to assume the initial interview will be similar to what the previous commenter (bionicRN) mentioned...seems like the first meeting with the recruiters might be pretty generic, and hopefully if all goes well they will help set us up for subsequent interviews with specific nurse managers. Ahh my interview with recruitment isn't scheduled until Nov 12 or 13 so looks like I'll have all of next week to prepare/get more nervous :X

Wow, they actually let you know that you passed the survey? Hmm I never got that so I assumed my chances were over :/ I don't see why they won't be contacting you soon to set up an interview, then! Fingers crossed for ya!

I retract my previous comment..received an email invitation for an interview with nurse recruitment! Ahh, nervous and excited. Time to prep!
