    Injured Football Player

ya know---just how cool is this??? There was a research protocol a while back for minimizing brain damage after neonatal asphyxiation/depression. They cooled just the brain w/a sort of cap. I'm not...

    Injured Football Player

I wonder if it's a new protocol or a study. If so, sounds promising. Nothing like getting "cutting edge" therapy out there

    Injured Football Player

I just heard on the news that they treated him by cooling the spinal cord, and they sounded more hopeful about his prognosis. I hope that turns out to be the

  6. For all that the Diploma programs were/are maligned, I gotta say, when I started working, there weren't a lot of surprises. Even the 1st summer, we were assigned a room w/4 pts, whatever was in there...

    Anybody feeling faint??

I went out watching a circ in nsg school (it didn't help that I was having killer cramps that morning); I got "funny" watching a bone marrow, too. Those were the only 2 times I had a problem in...
  8. Phobias are real and often crippling. You may want or need to deal w/that @ some time. I have a much bigger problem w/someone who is supposed to help the students get the most out of their lab...

    I must be an idiot

Anyone who hasn't been buffaloed by some pt @ some time in their working life just isn't having much fun. It's happened to most of us @ one time or another, whether we work in PACU or whereever!...

What do patients say that irks you?

I do understand your point; it's too bad there's not an easy way to determine that sort of hx. And, to know how to work w/the pt. so they both have a "good birth
  12. Ya'll have me so paranoid!! I needed to go to the ER last Monday; my problem was not life-threatening, but I wasn't sure I could wait another day, and Urgent Care was geographically ridiculous (thank...

What do patients say that irks you?

There needs to be as little time as possible between anesthesia induction and getting the baby out. Otherwise, you get a realllly sleepy baby--and that is not good. Baby gets the same drugs as mom....

    Stethoscope cracked

I agree about the skin oils--you may notice that the tubing gets stiffer, and even takes the curve of your neck. You should be able to get tubing online, lots of sites have "parts". Also look for a...

anyone have advice about IDET procedure?

I am very sorry you are having such difficulties. You need to call/be seen by the doc--sooner than next week. Unfortunately, it is against the Terms of Service for us to provide any medical advice....

In Todays New World a question or two

I do carry a 1st aid kit, actually a "car emergency" kit, for break downs, earthquakes and the like. I don't carry weapons. I'm inept enough that I'd probably hurt myself 1st, and then need the 1st...

Did you hear this about Medicaid?

Since nosocomial infections (and other iatrogenic complications) often stem from poor staffing practices, seems to me THAT should be the focus of Medicaid's attention. Not that they're interested in...

Need to Interview a Retired RN

I am "semi-retired"--I retired from a hospital after 34 years and ~ 9 months later, went back to work @ a different hospital as casual/per diem employee. Was supposed to be only 2 12hr shifts, but...

    Breastfeeding and Politics

The ads WERE overkill! That said, the PTB should not be caving to the formula co's. Surely, ads could have been created that were more tasteful and served the purpose--to promote bfdg as a foundation...
