  4. What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?

Considering that I work in LTC, not surprised at some comments. But one night I finished doing LLL blood sugar and she was waiting for a CNA to get her ready for bed. So I had a few minutes and did her HS care, lotion, powder ect. Get her PJ's on a...

In addition to all of the above, I would next time he touches you in a loud voice say "You have one second to take your hands off me or I will knee you in the groin, Do you understand?" and follow thru with it. Make sure your co-workers know so tha...

One of my first nursing jobs, I worked with a nurse who called me "snap-back" . I was like "what? what does that mean?" She smiled and laughed---"your skin still snaps back". That was 22 years ago....not so snap back anymore. Yep, I have got som...

  9. Most surprising/shocking/interesting thing you've seen

Had a diabetic that had a BKA and the surgical wound became infected and mult complications. Gentleman wouldn't allow surgeons to a above knee amp. So we were doing daily dressing changes pulling the skin flap up over exposed bone, skin flap was li...
  10. Where's the infection?

Another thought---we just had a resident have labs and her WBC was 20.7 and I first thought infection....then dug deep into her medical records and found she had CLL.
  11. To tell or not to tell!

A nurse manager is going to want names of people that are not following protocol. Once you open that can of worms then it is difficult to get the lid on. How are you going to respond when NM says and just "who left meds on the cart unattended?" Th...

  13. I fainted today in OR:(

don't worry about the OR they see that more than you know. I wonder if once you start to do dressings your self if you handle it just fine. Do you have any warning you are going to faint, if so pre warn others so they can be alerted.
  14. Will I get in trouble with the State Board of Nursing

Yes, they acted a bit overboard. More helpful would have been a nice note asking you to use X product on his lips instead of the TAO.
  15. Regarding chronic tardiness

I tease my co-worker for being late and we can laugh about it. She tries to be on time and she has even shared that she was up on time and then started puttering in the house and one thing led to another and she is 15-20 min late. The funny thing i...
  16. "Emergencies" in the school

I got a call from school one day and the secretary was like "your son had an accident" I am like is he ok, does he need emergency care? It was like pulling teeth from a cat to get correct info from her. It would have been more helpful for her to ...

  18. The "B" word. Again!

I have managed to not work in one of our blizzards so far, my luck has run out and am working tomorrow. It has been brutal.....but at the same time fun. The boys have shoveled the roof off and then jumped off the roof into the pile! My dad had to ...
  19. Do you share the Nebulizer units (machines)?

Each resident has their own....when they are finished with it, it gets returned to company. Neb txs are all at the same time so that would be very inconvenient if I had to wait for A bed to finish his to give it to B bed, yk?
  20. When Is OUR Parade?

Yes to all the posts.....I worked Wednesday and I held a lady's hand and comforted her family as she was dying. I had taken care of this precious lady before her cancer had advanced and she had the most wonderful sense of humor to the point of namin...

  24. Influenza Precautions

Our social worker makes the decisions on admissions also, taking people as skilled when we can't justify the need for skilled. Taking residents with a history of behavior issues and then saying "they can't be that bad".....umm yes they can/are that...
