  1. Should I "waste" my time getting an ADN?

I guess it depends where you live. My area has a nursing shortage, they'll take ADNs without a problem. The hospitals just make you get a BSN within 5 years.
  2. What is passing for your nursing program?

B's are needed for mine. 79.5% to be exact
  3. Feel incompetent

We've all been there. Life in general mixed with school can be a bumpy ride. I graduate in June (yay! Finally) and nearly had a mental breakdown going over my notes for my upcoming 14 chapter OB test on Monday. I put it down and came back to it feeli...
  4. Is nursing school really "that" bad?

Sometimes it is "that bad". For me it depends on the quarters. Right now I'm in mental health nursing, ethics, and sociology and I am struggling. Not sure if it's because I am not interested in the material or I have seniorities or what. Last term I ...
  5. How to study properly?

I do a lot of practice NCLEX questions, the rationales are really helpful. I also print up the key terms that come with my books from the Evolve website. My big study book is the NCLEX book. I'm pretty sure that book saved my butt in Med Surg I and I...
  6. Why are the floor nurses so unwilling to teach?

This is how I see it: some nurses love students, they are patient, kind, answer questions, are willing to help the student, etc.., meanwhile some nurses aren't programmed that way (just like in any other career setting). Some people just like to focu...
  7. Professionalism....name your irritation here!

Yes, this. I can not stand when my classmates (I'm still in school) mutter "real RNs don't do this". Yes, they do! It is everyone's responsibility to take care of patients, placing a bedpan takes two seconds.
  8. Probably because you're PRN. My facility pays PRN employees more, by a couple bucks.
  9. Was my professor out of line?

It's all about balance. Some professors are just like your professor, just shake it or speak to your teacher about it, or someone else. It's ok to have your family as your #1, but think of nursing school as another child. A really, needy, time consum...
  10. Help with Meds

Being able to understand and read lab values is also key. If you get a chance, look at your pt's diagnosis and look at lab values and how they relate. That has helped me out immensely
  11. Help with Med-Surg

I've found the NCLEX to be very helpful, especially when it came to breaking down the question and what to look for. Med surg is tough! Good luck to you
  12. Truth about Breckinridge school of nursing

Oh, and no, I do not work for ITT lol. I work for a LTC facility.
  13. Truth about Breckinridge school of nursing

Kent State University accepts ITT credits. As for my BSN, I'm looking into getting my BSN through Western Governors University online program.
  14. Clinical hours

My clinicals for Med Surg are Tuesdays 0700-1900, for the next 9 weeks. I attend theory Mondays 0900-1230, and I have Psych 0900-1230 Fridays. I work 24 hours a week, midnight shifts, every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm also married, I have a ...
  15. Truth about Breckinridge school of nursing

I attend ITT now, it's a hard program, very hard. We have to average at least a B (79.5% is the bare minimum a student can get to pass the class, with the exception of dosage calculations, which is an A). My school also has some of the top NCLEX pass...
  16. New CNA - Need some advice!

Welcome! First things first ignore the drama. It's there, don't let it get to you. Second: come up with a routine. It's important to get rounds, showers, get ups on time in a safe matter third: get sleep! It's hard sleeping through the day, but you ...
  17. Anyone attendind ITT Tech Nursing program?

Hi! I attend Breckinridge, and yes, I enjoy it immensely. My professors are great, and have all had many years experience in the field. The coursework is a lot, but worth it. As others have mentioned, it is costly. I was able to get a scholorship tha...
  18. Med surg II

I highly advise to stay away from test banks. A bunch of students at my school are currently in MAJOR trouble for using test banks.
  19. Full time college student and CNA ?

I work pt at 24 hours a week on midnights, while attending class 3 days a week. It is feasible, just learn to balance and stay organized.
  20. That one resident

Yep. Been there. My resident once said to an aide "I don't have to do anything as long as I'm here, since I have you to do it for me"
  21. cna + drug testing

How is this even a question? Most places require drug testing, and will not hire you if the test comes up positive.
  22. Cleaning and changing colostomy bag

I think it depends on the state and/or facility. The aides at my facility do not touch colostomy bags.
  23. Is being a CNA really so dreadful?

I like my job as a STNA. I have learned a lot, especially on how just to talk to residents and their families. I'm a night aide, which for me is "easier" in some ways, the work load is still a lot, but compared to days it's less hectic (and I feel th...
  24. Studying while occupying a child

It's hard. My little one is 20 months old and man is he active. I study during the day when I can. I'll play, play, entertain him, then try to sneak to the couch with my book, while he plays on the floor with a cup of Cheerios.
  25. At my place of employment, at least in my section of the LTC, we only have maybe 14 male residents out of roughly 66. In my opinion, working in the nursing field an aide/nurse/whatever should be comfortable working around both males and females.
