    Per diem at home

I want a per diem job so that I can maintain my skills between contracts and so that I can take more time off after my contracts end and still have a little money coming in. I don't know if that makes sense or not.
  2. I really want to go to the Bay Area so I told both of my recruiters from 2 different agencies to submit me for hospitals in those areas. I don't know why I didn't think there would be some overlap. I messed up! Does anyone know what happens when you...

I accidentally submitted myself twice for the same hospital

Do I tell the hospital that I was submitted twice or will they know before they call me?

    L&D in CA...good and bad?

My recruiter helps me find housing. She usually has relationships with local people who rent rooms to travelers.

    L&D in CA...good and bad?

Not this time. I'm traveling with my other agency, Flexcare.

    High pay or location?

What factors do you consider when choosing a contract- the pay package or the location? I have a choice right now between a very well paying job in a not so nice area and an okay paying job in a beautiful location. I'm kinda torn so I wanted some in...

    L&D in CA...good and bad?

I'm still here. I'm packing for the Bay Area now. I'm leaving in 2 weeks. I had to find my own housing. My company doesn't provide housing but gives an extremely generous housing stipend. I usually look for residence Inns or extended stays becau...

    L&D in CA...good and bad?

I am originally from NYC. I came to central valley California earlier this year to do L&D. One of the biggest pros is they have state mandated patient:nurse ratios which is why it's a good market for travelers. Also there's OT after 8 hours of y...

Does the travel aspect of nursing make up for the jobs cons?

Flight attendants travel and make good money too.

    Insurance between contracts

My agency's insurance plan provides coverage until the end of the last working month so I try to get all my appts in before then. If I really need coverage I use cobra but it's ridiculously expensive.

    California licensure endorsement verification

I applied for my CA license in August 2014. I got my temporary license in December 2014. My permanent license came in April 2015 but only after I called and harassed them about it.

BSN required to work in NY?

I hear ya! I worked in NY for 6 years and at some point I just got stuck. I hated my staff job but I couldn't get another one without a BSN. That was a factor that made me want to travel. I still have no desire to get my BSN. I'm enrolled at Western ...

    pregnancy and travel

I'm a traveler. I just had a baby last week. I also have a 2 year old. I found out I was pregnant right before I signed my first contract. I had the decision to stay in my sucky staff job or travel. I chose to travel. I made enough money in the fir...

Already make $42/hr. Is travel nursing worth it?

I always thought ER and ICU made more than L&D.

OB RN wants a job outside of the hospital!

Right now I'm doing OB telephone triage from home. I'm just taking a break from the hospital though. I plan to return to L&D next year.

Already make $42/hr. Is travel nursing worth it?

Yes I do labor and delivery and I only do rapid responses. Right now labor and delivery is at a lull so I'm just hanging out but I think most travel nurses who work in a specialty have that option. I've seen ER and ICU jobs that pay $70 an hour for ...

Already make $42/hr. Is travel nursing worth it?

I had this fear too especially since I was the sole bread winner in a family of 4. I left NY making $45 an hour as staff. My first assignment was $60 an hour. At my last assignment I was bringing home $3000 a week after taxes. There's always money to...
  19. Im sure everyone has seen AWHONN's campaign to reduce elective inductions and ceseareans before 39 weeks but does that mean 39 weeks is the full term cut off now? Is it no longer 37 weeks? I ask as both an OB nurse and a woman who is currently 37 wee...
  20. I know strikes are controversial, but that aside, can you survive financially just doing strikes? I ask because I'm having a baby soon and I kinda don't want to be away from my newborn for long spans of time to do a full contract, but money is get...

    California

That was actually they one thing I didn't like about my California assignment. I only got a half an hour break for 12 hours of work. They have this thing, at least my agency, where you sign a waiver to forfeit a second break. But even if you get a se...

    California

Central valley pays the most. So Cal, specifically San Diego pays the least. As far as the sights, I love all of California. I couldn't even pick my favorite place. There's something to do everywhere, and if there's nothing to do in the vicinity, you...

    About Pitocin

I get into a lot of trouble at work when it comes to pit augmentations because I'm never very aggressive. I go up every 30-40 minutes and not 20-30. If a woman is contracting every 2-3 minutes I leave it alone, regardless of her Montevideo units if ...

Can you make a living just doing strikes?
