You should take an electronic fetal monitoring course. It's more about fetal well being than labor progression. If we didn't monitor contractions and the baby's heart rate randomly dropped 30 beat per minute for 30 seconds, how would we know if the b...
I thought years of experience didn't matter. I only have 3 years of labor and delivery experience and I'm making the same (and sometimes more than) nurses with thrice as much experience. I chase crisis rates in California. I go where there's a need...

Why is there so much anxiety about prophecy testing? Are you just not good test takers? It's nowhere near difficult like the NCLEX. It's super basic nursing information. You shouldn't worry about failing it. And if you are confident in your nursin...
Does anybody keep a per diem job at home while traveling? How does that work? Do you fly home once a month and do all your days in a row? I just signed a 6 month contract for 48 hours a week, but I was also offered a per diem position near my home ...
My contract was cancelled because I questioned a charge nurse. My agency said even though it appears that I was unjustly terminated, there has to be an investigation. My recruiter said once the report comes out and everything is cleared she can su...
I'm a seasoned L&D nurse and I'm trying to put together a gift basket for my friend who will be starting orientation on L&D soon. So far I have a stethoscope with a dual bell for moms and babies, a pocket dilation guide, an EFM cheat sheet, ...
I got into it with a charge nurse. She accused me of doing something I didn't do and I stood up for myself. I had to have a big meeting with the nurse manager and I thought everything was resolved. Then I got a call from my recruiter this morning sa...
Do I have any rights as a traveler? I already told my clinical liason and she said it sounds like a retaliation thing. As a traveler is there such a thing as wrongful termination?
Agencies aren't always helpful. My recruiter just posts a Craigslist ad on my behalf (which I could do myself). I used furnished finders. They find a place, set up your utilities, rent furniture plus pay up front move in fees. They add up all thei...
I took care of a patient today who was post op day one still on a PCA. I went in this morning and said hi. We chatted for a minute because her older daughter was the same age as my daughter. Then she asked for her baby from the nursery. I had some...

I'd say as a traveler you'd be making $30-$40. Whenever I see postings for travel contracts med surg is always on the lower end of the spectrum. Specialties boast upwards of $70-$85 an hour but I never see med surg pay over $45. Someone correct me if...
Does such a thing even exist? I put out a Craigslist ad but everyone who responded is quoting monthly rent prices from $6000+ and weekly rent of $700-$900. And the corporate housing prices are just as outrageous, plus they want double the rent up fr...

I just had a baby in June. I worked straight from October 2014 when I found out until March 2015 when I was about 28 weeks. I had to end my contract 10 days early due to complications with my pregnancy. It wasn't a super big deal because I had a doc...
My partner does construction so it's easy for him to start and stop working. But we have kids so he's doing the stay at home dad thing right now. He drives for uber for extra pocket money. Maybe your hubby can do that.
Ditto. Half of the awesomeness of travel nursing is flexibility. I worked straight for 6 months, then I was off for six months. Now I'm working straight until March 2016, after which I will be chilling again for six months. For me I work and save ...

I work with Flexcare. I loved them until last week. Don't ever do double time with them. Otherwise I have no complaints. I've never taken housing from them but their stipend is very generous and they help you find a place. The pay is great. This will...
I know you're supposed to get OT after working 8 hours in a shift, but do you get OT if your total weekly hours add up to less than 40 hours or does the weekly total not matter? In other words, do you get OT if you work three 12 hour shifts?
I made a few supervisor/manager friends along the way and specifically asked if I could use them as references. I just give my recruiters name for employment verification.
I have 2 agencies. I took 2 assignments with Fastaff and now I'm on my second assignment with Flexcare. I didn't tell my Fastaff Recruiter anything when I took my first flexcare assignment. I just didn't call her back. I don't know if that was unpro...
