    Removing Staples....

And this is truly the first time I have ever heard/read about it... right here! We use a LOT of bacitracin. :uhoh21: Any article links to back that up? Might want to send this on to our agency...

    Considering Home Care....

I, too, prefer to do my 6-7 visits than to do shiftwork. Our agency doesn't even DO shiftwork. Strictly visits. We have our pts. "zoned" according to where we live. I start out in town (as I need to...
  4. Yes. Very occasionally I might see eight, if a nurse or tw0 are out on vacation or sick. But 6-7 are plenty, considering the paperwork which remains to be done once you get

    phlebotomy and IV class

It still blows my mind every time... I just can NOT believe these most important skills are not being taught in today's nursing programs !!! I just don't get it.

awwwwwwwww... I am SO happy for you ! Really makes me want to do dialysis again when I hear that. But I also love HH.. gee.... 3 days HH and 2 days dialysis... THAT would work !!! Our old unit was...

Wow.. that is the best news I've heard re chronic outpt. facilities in a long while! :) I do miss dialysis a lot, but not enough to go back to the horrors of the mega millions for profit
  9. IMO, every ER nurse and EMT should be trained on basic access and care of HD accesses. In a life threatening situation, better to use it and save a life, regardless of the old "nobody touches it but...

    Question about an admit

I do call the ER in situations on weekends if I can't reach the pt.'s PCP.. which is usually the case on weekends. I can speak with an ER doc to get verbal orders to hold me over until Monday.. and...

    Language barrier question

That really IS great info! I'll have to pass this along as well. Don't think we have any translaters currently.. at ALL. In my area, there's really not too much need for one, BUT... ya never know!!!...

    Question about an admit

Sounds to me like you did a FINE job. It IS difficult on weekends.. when you get an admit and have to rely on the intake person's information.. or lack thereof. OR... that of teh rehab, hospital etc....

    jnette's bio

My love for all things medical began in early childhood. I grew up in Germany as my mother was from Vienna, Austria and my father an officer in the USAF who eventually retired in Germany. In 1970...

Think I've come to a fork in the road

hmmmmmmmmmmm... our agency appreciates us. :) I think where most of you are getting burned out is the "case management" aspect. I'm grateful our agency doesn't do case management. We have office staff...

Have you gone to patient's funeral?

Gone to more than I care to remember. Like Hellllo, though.. it started getting to me. In dialysis you lose MANY over time. Stopped going after several years. Even now in HH, I try to avoid it if I...

    home health nursing

Hello witter11... we had just discussed this topic a day or two ago. Here is the link to that discussion, I hope you will find it helpful. :) https://allnurses.com/forums/f23/question-259078.html...
  20. Ditto. You can easily challenge the PN. And EC will accept you into their nursing program based on your experience, no questions asked , as they did me on my past AF medic (corpsman) experience. But...
  21. I did the reuse processing for quite some time while I worked in dialysis... I can't say that I would request a new dialyzer as opposed to a reuse dialyzer. There are many, MANY steps involved in...
  22. Wow.. you hit the nail on the head, Kerry! That was also one of my hugest disappointments... they have zero respect or appreciation of their truly dedicated staff ! We were treated as totally...

    home health, easier for LVNs?

It is true that LVNs/LPNs don't have the same amount of paperwork as the RNs do, as they do not do admissions, follow-ups. discharges, etc. and thus are spared all that tedious OASIS documentation....

    Question

I would say you could be hired, but as the above poster stated, it might not be the wisest thing to do at this point in your new career. I, too, would find it preferable if a new nurse had a little...
