Ready to start again in January...

Hi Holistic! Can't respond back to your message, but have been in contact with your recruiter :) Don't think she's going to be able to find a position that fits my needs this go round...but maybe when we get back from our Italy vacation in April! Thanks for the info...she was very sweet and did a bit of leg work today! I gave her your name :)

Anyone done an assignment in Clinton, MD

No Cali license and after looking at their BON site to apply, it appears that I will have to take Microbiology class with a lab. When I graduated from our nursing program, micro was incorporated into the nursing curriculum, not a separate class. So, I will be taking Micro during the summer so that I can obtain a Cali license! I've been an RN for 19 years, but my ASN program didn't start a separate Micro class requirement until 1998 I've seen a ton of Cali L&D positions!

Anyone done an assignment in Clinton, MD

Thanks BluntForceTrauma...had one recruiter tell me that Maryland is a walk through state, and Faststaff recruiter told me it's not...takes about 3 weeks for license (the opening is posted for 2/13-3/15), so I would have time to apply. Only hitch is, I'd have to pay for the licensing and would only be reimbursed when the assignment is completed. Hate to be out $140 if it's an "iffy" proposition!
  4. I have seen several travel positions listed for Clinton, MD. Has anyone out there done an assignment there? Holy cow, they have a bunch of openings! I believe it is Southern Maryland Hospital. Thanks in advance!

    Rude recruiter!!!

I had a recruiter (4 years ago) submit my application at an East Coast (Florida) hospital that we never discussed!!! The manager called me for a telephone interview! I'm sure I sounded like a moron repeating "where are you located? how did you get my info?, etc" Very bad... what if I wanted to travel there in the future...I'm sure I didn't make any great first impression!

What kind of testing are you concerned with? I took an online basic nursing exam through RN Network when I did my travel assignment 4 years ago...I was more concerned with medications, since we basically deal with antepartum, labor and postpartum drugs. I just had a medication book with me for reference, like I would have on the floor if I needed to administer a medication that was not familiar to me.

    who intubates?

Our RT people intubate and are NRP certified! We also have NICU, but, when I started working at our hospital 18 years ago, we didn't have NICU and relied on our Resp. Therapist to attend all of our deliveries.

That makes sense...It would be nice if they at least said they'd get back with me after the holidays. I actually had one recruiter leave a voice mail on my home phone (I was outside and heard it ringing, but didn't get to it in time), and I called her right back...as she said she had a potential position I might be interested in. I left a message on her voice mail asking her to call me back...nothing! That was over a week ago.

Ready to start again in January...

I've been an L&D nurse at the same hospital for the past 18 years. In January of 2009 I took a leave of absence and did a 13 week assignment in Maine. Had a great time (other than the weather!), but the travel market somewhat crashed, so I decided to come back home and put my travels on hold until I could see another upswing in the market. I originally signed up with approximately 6 different agencies and have gotten cold calls from these agencies for the past 4 years on a regular basis. NOW, I have committed to travel again in January (I have to complete some certifications that will expire in Feb & March before I take an assignment), so have spoken to 3 different recruiters. They were gung-ho when I called with potential start dates....all three have dropped off the face of the earth. Have I decided to commit at the wrong time? Or have I just chosen to deal with the wrong people?

    Am I nuts? Travel OB?

I did a travel assignment back in 2009. My hospital also let me stay on as a pool member. It was fun and I'd love to do it again. My husband couldn't stay with me during the 13 week assignment as we have 2 dogs and he was wrapping up work of his own. I missed my husband, friends and co-workers, so returned to my home base. Things have changed since then. My longtime boss has left the company and we haven't been able to replace her with a manager that understands the needs of our unit. My husband has nearly completely retired...so I too am thinking about going for it again! Will need to wait until after the 1st of the new year...have to renew my ACLS, NRP and STABLE which are all due in Feb 2013. Fortunately these classes are all offered the first part of January. So, bottom line...no you're not crazy! LOL
