I need some advice, new to the medical field.

Why don't you take some time off the clock to orient yourself around the hospital? If you do it on your own time, you can relax and go at your own pace. It's easier to retain the layout that way I would think.

...Morphine intolerance. (probably not funny to any of you, but when I was in a motorcycle accident a few years ago the Morphine made me vomit about that much lol.)
  4. Hi. Ok, This is my first topic, and I'm not sure that I'm supposed to even be putting anything in the "APRN" section (since I'm actually just a pre-req RN students as of now). However, I've been researching the NP's role in healthcare for approximat...

    New York NP's

I appreciate the information, OP. Thank you. I'll go through both sites today when I get home from classes.

    New York NP's

Hi guys. I hate to intrude on the APRN thread, (I'm still a just a Pre req Nursing student) but after reading this thread I have a question. Can anyone tell me of any good websites that can tell me things like which states allow how much autonomy for...

    Praying in the work place

I'd have no problem whatsoever. I just wouldn't participate if I didn't want to.

    Praying in the work place

I'd like to ask some questions here, if it's ok. What ever happened to letting people do whatever they wanted as long as it isn't hurting anyone? BECAUSE IF YOU WANT TO HELP, USE YOUR NURSING INTERVENTIONS, NOT PRAYER I just went back and read many o...

    Praying in the work place

I think you meant this response for someone else lol. But frankly, As long as those Wiccan rituals weren't hurting anyone (or animal, yes I believe in animal rights) then I wouldn't have a problem with it-I wouldn't participate, but I wouldn't have a...

    Praying in the work place

Quotefrom PRICHARILLAisMISSED I'd like to ask some questions here, if it's ok. For the non-religious people-same questions. Plus, why would you be "offended" (wow, that word is thrown around so much today, huh?) if a religious person wanted...

    Praying in the work place

I'd like to ask some questions here, if it's ok. What ever happened to letting people do whatever they wanted as long as it isn't hurting anyone? I just went back and read many of the posts on this thread, and some people act like other people prayi...

    Praying in the work place

I believe that if anyone really has a problem with the SC starting meetings off with prayer, they should just not participate. I just don't understand why it's such a big deal. I know that technically due to regulation 66.6 blah blah blah that yes, i...

    Super Obese

Everything you say here I agree with. All of it. The bolded is actually what I mean to say, only with a bit more sympathy than I used. But please understand that I'm not vilifying the obese (or alcoholic or drug addict for that matter). I was simply ...

    Super Obese

This is 100% true, dirtyhippiegirl. Many diseases are the result of lifestyle choice. However, the difference between things like Alcoholism, drug addiction and obesity is that in most cases it is entirely within the "victims" reach to fix it. Yes, i...

    Super Obese

Ms. Jeanette, I know that you are well meaning, I believe that. Unfortunately, it is your kind of thinking that enables things like obesity, drug abuse and alcohol abuse. I don't mean to offend you, and I'd like to point out that you are not alone in...

Navy NCP and 41 at graduation...

I don't know how it works for Officers, but for enlisteds your prior service time is added to the cut off. You may need a waiver, but it's doable. So if the normal cutoff is 41, but you have 4 years prior service then YOUR cutoff will be 45. Hope tha...

I have a new respect for familes who lose loved ones

No need to downplay the loss of a pet, OP. To some of us they ARE family, not just "like family." "Pricharilla" from my handle was my dog... And I am so sorry for your loss. I can tell you that it will get easier to deal with eventually, but there wi...

Do doctors have any idea what we nurses do? lol

To the first bolded, maybe him asking these kinds of questions is his way of making you feel included... I see so many posts from nurses who complain that the physicians don't take them seriously or couldn't care less about what they say. Maybe your ...

    Throw Away Nurses

Ma'am, in this job market, interviewers have so many applicants for any given position that many scan them looking for ANYTHING negative so that they can put in in the "No chance in ****" pile" so they can move on to the next one. In your case, your ...

    For extroverts...please don't ask me

I couldn't have said it better myself. To add to this post from the PP, I'd like to suggest that you try to focus on the fact that they likely do have good intentions. I personally believe that a persons intent is more important (in social matters, a...

i HATE my job. Does anyone else feel the same?

I'm sorry you feel that way about your job, OP. I read a lot of similar stories on this forum. I'm currently only a student, so I'm not in a position to give you any professional advice. What I can do however, is regurgitate both what I read on this ...

Believe it or not, where I currently live the hospitals have a preference for new grads from the community college (though they're technically a full blown college now as they fairly recently started offering bachelor degrees in a few subjects) over ...

    Co-complainers. Is anything good enough?

If I were in your shoes, I would read post #2 slowly, absorb it and then read it again. I understand that since you're the "New Nurse" you just want to go with the flow and not make waves. I get that. I also wouldn't fault you for doing their jobs f...

Take this job and shove it, I ain't working here no more!

Congratulations, Blue Roses. I'm happy for you. I mean it. I hope you continue to enjoy your new job, and also I hope your letter helps your buddies at your previous hospital eventually :)
