  2. didn't start school til age 50

I started pre reqs in fall of 2011 at age 49. I start my ADN in a about a week at 51. It is a full 4 semesters and like the previous responses, all those years of living bring a lot to the table. Also, like much of the other sage advice on AN, if you...

  4. Older Nursing Students

I too am 51 and starting my program in August. It's like the others said, we will be the same age whether we go to school or not! I think the wisdom of our years is an advantage. Just my opinion. Good luck to all us "ole timers" !

  8. Having issues with death anxiety

Think of it this way, you don't stop driving just because someone else had a crash. Death is not pleasant but in many cases it also is not unpleasant. Many times people are ready to die, they have found their peace and welcome whatever may be next. I...
  9. Nursing School as an Older Student

I sure can't argue with this advice! As a 50 pluser myself that is one of my tougher hurdles. Our kids grew up with this technology and we must grow into it. I have a 3 year old grandson who can navigate my iphone and ipad quite handily. I, in the me...

  11. Nursing School as an Older Student

Well I can't help with advice from the older lady department- but being about the same age I can tell ya to have faith. I truly believe that the wisdom of your years and experience in raising children will help compensate for the slight slowing we bo...
  12. Class of 2015

I am 51 and changing from a carpenter to a nurse. How big is your change? I was an EMT many years ago and loved it. Hoping nursing is even more rewarding. Although I do love making furniture!
  13. Anatomy and Physiology

We did a sheeps heart and a cat. I think the mental prep is important. I was not fond of it on one hand but was fascinated to see the various parts of anatomy in the flesh so to speak. Even though pictures are very detailed- it's not the same as seei...

  15. Is this too much to handle?

I think you may also find in addition to the good advice previously posted that the intro bio course will help when you take a/p which will help when you take micro. It did at my school. Even a/p 2 helped with micro. Good luck. Thats a lot of science...

The wait is over! Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! Yee hah!!
  19. Waiting on acceptance/rejection letters

True that there is not a problem registering for nursing classes with accepted students. What about getting a decent working schedule if you are not accepted? Plus i need one additional course in addition to nursing curriculum in order to maintain a ...
  20. Any career switchers starting in the Fall?

Well i will join this party at age 51. I am going from a cabinet maker to a nurse, providing I am accepted. I should know this week sometime. I have a flexible boss but still am anxious about becoming a part time guy with a part time paycheck! I have...
  21. Waiting on acceptance/rejection letters

So here is my gripe. On top of waiting and stressing over acceptance, letters go out by the 29th of this month. Alas, registration starts on the 25th of the month. See any problems here?
  22. Well you sure are not alone! I too must wait till almost the end of March to get the word from my school. I have applied to only one so it isn't hard to find the eggs in my basket! Good luck to us all, I know there are are bunch of us out there!
  23. Hello everyone. I have been visiting AN for a few months and would like to comment on the awesome support I have read for all the students. I am a 51 year old male anxiously awaiting the fate of my school application. I am on my last pre req this sem...
  24. I DID IT!!!!!!

Yep, the end of March seems like an eternity. I applied to one school only. I am hoping that having all my pre reqs and a 3.5 gpa coupled with a 98% on the pax/rn is good enough. I sure have read some heartbreakers!
  25. Why a Nurse?

I just like helping people. I did the fireman/emt thing- the medical was better. I like the mental challenge. 51 years for my new career choice. I hope for a msn before my bones petrify!
