  1. What Is It Like Being A LPN Student?

PN school was very busy. I had lecture twice a week and clinical studies twice a week. I worked every weekend during nursing school. My son was 12 when I graduated from school. Now I'm in the process of applying to a LPN to RN transition program.
  2. New Nurse Exhausted from Extremely Long Shifts? Help?

Nope. I work my 32 hour Baylor a week and keep it pushing. I don't even have a prn job. My job is short-staffed also, but that's not my problem.
  3. Change from 5 8 hour shifts s week to 12 hour rotations.

I've been working in LTC for about a year now. All of my shifts have been 12 hours, except now I work Baylor shift. 1-8 hr shift on Friday night and 2-12 hour shifts Saturday and Sunday. I love my schedule.
  4. Foley cath as g tube?

I've used them for a temp replacement for a gtube. I work in ltc.
  5. Does your facility have 12 hour shifts or 8 hour shifts?

Both. I work 1-8 hour shift and 2-12 hour shifts a week.
  6. Seriously overworked

I would leave. That's about how many I have on nights, but it's not as stressful as your job. Another thing that helped me is that I only have that many residents 2 nights out of the week because my schedule changed to night shift Baylor. Good luck ...
  7. Full time working moms - how do you manage it?

I'm a LPN and I work in LTC. My schedule has changed to where I work 2-12s and 1-8 hour shift a week. I work Sat, Sun, Mon. night Baylor. My parents keep my son on the nights I work.
  8. Night Shift Relationship Woes

You're a good one, OP. He'd be my ex, and I would move out. I work nights too, and people know better than to wake me up.
  9. Night Shift in LTC- how do I get out ?

I would start looking for another job with the hours I wanted to work.
  10. Are we better than the hosts of The View?

I think the last time I watched the view was probably during its first season. I was made aware of this stupidity because of the Internet. All I gotta say is this: if nurses are insulting each other for choosing different routes for their nursing car...
  11. LPN who does not want to be an RN?

If you are content with being an LPN, that is perfectly okay. I am a LPN. However, I do plan to pursue higher nursing education. I've already applied to a LPN-RN transition program. I have not decided what to obtain a graduate degree in yet, but tha...
  12. Attention New Nurses in LTC. Night shift is where it's at.

I currently work 7p-7a at a LTC facility. My 9pm med pass is a beast, but the 6am med pass is easy peasy. There has been talk at my facility about returning to 8 hour shifts. I'll definitely take the 11p-7a.
  13. New LPN with Many Blessings!

    Congratulations! I'm in SC, too.
  14. LPN/LVN first paycheck :)

I didn't spend my first paycheck. I saved half of it, and waited until I got my second paycheck to pay bills.
  15. when to take the nclex?

I waited 6 months. I passed NCLEX-PN the first time, though. I used Virtual ATI (didn't finish all the modules), and Saunders PN review for about a week before the test.
  16. Working as a CNA after obtaining LPN licensure

Only if they paid me according to my license. My job was short CNAs and they pulled a newly licensed LPN to work and she got her nursing $$$.
  17. I am leaving LTC yet again

I'm a new nurse, and I work in LTC. I'm 3 months in and am eagerly awaiting the coveted year of experience so I can move on.
  18. Eliminating the LPN position

I say go by your gut feeling. If you are sure you will get hired as a LPN after you graduate and pass boards, go the PN, route. You will gain nursing experience and have $$$ while you pursue the rest of your nursing studies. If not, go the ASN or BSN...
  19. LPNs are nurses too.

A lot of people where I'm from can't finish high school, let alone finish a nursing program be it PN or RN. I wish someone would insult me because I'm a LPN. Would not be a pretty sight. People who do that are miserable themselves and have to find ot...
  20. Worth Being A LPN

Worth it to me. I'm getting nursing experience and a biweekly paycheck that's a decent salary. As far as LPNs being in demand, depends on your geographic location. Can't be too choosy about LPN jobs, though. I knew that when i majored in practical n...
  21. Work during LPN classes

I wasn't a CNA, but I worked part-time every weekend while I was PN school. I also plan to work while go back to get my RN.
  22. I am starting to love wound care - am I nuts?

I love wound care too. I'm a very new nurse (less than three months experience) and one of my goals is to be a CWOCN.
  23. Shift Work vs Monday to Friday - Which would you prefer?

Shift work, please. That's one of the reasons I became a nurse. To have more days off. Eventually in my career I'll have to move to a more traditional schedule, but right now I'm loving night shift and my days off.
  24. I'm a nurse and I don't like people.

I'm a new nurse who just started working nights at a LTC facility. I'm also an introvert. I decided to work nights for several reasons, including the fact I'd be around a lot less people than during day shift. I love taking care of my residents, but ...
  25. Length of employment

I'm a newly licensed LPN. I just started my job at a LTC facility a week ago. I like it, so I foresee myself being there for awhile.
