  1. Well then, your god allows some pretty nasty things to happen to innocent children.
  2. oooooh, this one is rough. I met a 12 y/o who cut up her face with a soda can lid, so that she would be so ugly that her father would stop having sex with her. She was also pregnant by him. There is no god.
  3. With all due respect, crying all day and freaking out like that is a terrible trait. Put your big girl pants on and handle yourself like an adult, or at least like a professional. Im sorry to rant like this, but for goodness sake, you sound like a baby. Can you imagine seeing a Doctor breaking down inconsolably over a minor accident like that.
  4. In the same way that there are cultural differences that we are taught to embrace, there are also gender differences that shouldn't be ignored. Personally, L&D was the worst part of school, I never really felt welcome on the unit, and it was the attitude of the female nurses that made me feel unwelcome. We are not the same, and trying to force our patients and society to accept that is silly. Its better to be understanding and flexible, in my humble opinion.
  5. I think you get the picture by now, I have my job and you have yours. The best course of action is to understand this and do the best you can, there's a lot you can learn by watching.
  6. I view "forbidden words" immature mythology that too many nurses live by. (The jury is still out on the full moon thing; if the moon can affect tides, and animal behavior, who's to say it cant affect sensitive human physiology?)
  7. I'm biting my tongue here because patients do have the absolute right to refuse care for whatever reason, BUT its impossible to move towards an equal society if we treat "preferences" as anything other than sexism, racism, homophobia, etc. The practice should be frowned upon unashamedly.
  8. Ativan bro.......
  9. WAY less drama. I'll take working with the guys anyday.
  10. I just start talking with a lisp and they calm right down.......
  11. you're probably overthinking the questions if the above is true.
  12. In order to leave a well thought out response, Im gonna have to see Pictures. Please post so that I can respond "appropriately" ;-)
  13. Pranqster replied to Number 21's topic in Correctional
aren't they on lock down? isn't that why you go to their tier? how would that be a recipe for a hostage situation then security is tighter for fog lockdown?
  14. "trust in the lord"
  15. I look at the big picture, including histroy. Is this a 18yo athletic male vs 55yo obese diabetic male s/p CABG? I always run an ECG on c/o CP. If V/S are normal and ECG neg, I tell them that everything looks good so far. That often weeds out the legit cases.
  16. cheap pizza......
  17. is this guy serious? "Poor patient outcomes is a small price to pay"? REALLY?! This knuckehead would sacrifice a patients healthcare so that us "socialists" lose! What a coward!!!!!
  18. I'm glad to see that there is some effort on the part of the Administration to fix healthcare in the US. The Idea that the status quo is working is delusional. The oppositioin to Obamacare should focus on improving healthcare not simply opposing Obama at every turn. Being the party of "No" has gotten them another 4 years of Obama. congratulations.
  19. If anything, you may not be accepted as a male nurse. -gotta love cultural differences!
  20. Im no expert on the subject, but recently read an article on excelsior's RN program that you may want to read. make sure that your board will allow you to sit for the nclex. http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/forms/excelsiornewsrelease.pdf
  21. MTA= Medical Technical Assistant :-)
  22. hippa is for identifying patient information. you can say that patient x drank a cup of bleach without violating anything.
  23. Heres the deal, the prep sucks and we all had to do it. Its part of your education and you are getting more out of it than you think you are. you are inexperienced at this point and if you showed up at clinicals with no prep or understanding of you patient's disease processes, treatments, meds etc you'd be lost and wouldn't have time to do the research before getting to work- that, more than lack of sleep, would be unsafe. Understandably, at this point in your career you don't know how much you don't know. I'm not trying to be mean, but all the work that you feel is meaningless will pay off when you're on your own.
  24. I think you nailed it! "The princess as I see it is the nurse who is allowed to demand and receive privileges and the staff as a whole panders to it. Specifically, the princess can protest her assignment, demand extra staff and throw an occasional tantrum when she gets upset. This same assignment and staffing ratio has been managed without complaint or problem by other shifts yet when the princess complains it becomes a "justifiable issue that needs immediate correction. " I can't understate how many times I hear how much smoother the shift is when there are men working. I don't want to offend the ladies, I love'em, but you asked.....
