  1. Does epic pay for the travel to their site?
  2. Well I have decided. I am getting out of FNP school and looking for a nursing informatic position. Thank you everyone for your help.
  3. One of the main reasons I went FNP was from family influences. I also wanted a masters degree to set me apart from other applicants to positions I applied to. I feel like technology in nursing is where I belong. I have a great GPA and did very well in bedside nursing and thought that FNP was the route to go for future expansion in my life. I really like the idea of nursing informatics, but I do not want to crunch numbers(data) all day. I really like the idea of medical equipment sales or education. Thank you everyone for the replys and keep them coming.
  4. I am currently in FNP school and I am almost 100% positive I do not want to be part of direct patient care(And yes I know this is almost a sin against nursing, but I am just not feeling it.) What I want to know if there are any non-clinical NP jobs out there that anyone can recommend. These are my skills/talents Computers-I know my software and hardware very well. (Ran a computer repair business.) Automotive Mechanics People Skills These are my main skills that talent that come to my head. Please let me know what everyone thinks and/or your experiences
  5. Thank you for the comment! I have really got think hard on these questions for good answers. The Why this school is the hardest because it did not require the GRE(The only reason I applied )
  6. I have my Interview for FNP school coming up soon and I was wondering what type of questions they ask, so for anyone currently in NP school or who has been in interviews for NP what did they ask you? Do you have any tips for the interview? What questions did you ask or do you think are important to ask after the interviewers? I am very excited about this and will keep everyone updated!
  7. 1.I am using Meckesson in my unit now. I feel like I know the software very well. 2.I need to brush up on excel but my other programs I am very talented at. I love to explore and learn software. 3.The analysts spots do sound nice. I agree with you bottom statement. Of just quitting nursing an starting over fresh, but it seems like such a waste of previous education.
  8. I am a current night shift MSICU RN with 1 year of experience, and all I have to say is I am sick of it. I went this route because I planned to do CRNA or NP, but I feel I will hate doing both of those as well I have a 3.6GPA, and have plenty of contacts and feel I could get in to a program if I wanted to go to a APN route. I think nursing informatics is the way to go for me. The reason I say this is because I am a huge computer guy, I do computer repairs as a side job and have done this since high school I am very good at software, hardware, and working with programs. I also like to teach, I tutored during college and loved it. I feel that I would much rather work with the computerized part of nursing. So my questions are: 1.Where do I start with informatics? 2.Will my tech skills benefit me? 3.What type of job positions would be right for my skill set? I am planning about getting out of ICU soon. I think I will apply to CRNA and NP schools, but I would hate to go through all that education and money only to find I hate that job as well. So please if you have any experience in informatics let me know what you think! Thank you!
  9. Pt stayed with the BP on the leg for 4 days while I was gone. The Pt is now in MODS and UO is 0... The pressure was stupid low the entire time while the leg read great...
  10. I had a recent pt that I had running on a vasopressor over days while getting pressures using the arm as my reference. Then the night shift nurse uses the calf pressure and states "It gave me higher pressure so I stopped the vasopressors." During my shift I changed the cuff back to the arm when the pressure was around 90 on the leg, and then when measured 76 on the L arm and 68 on R arm. I talked to my charge and the docter and they said continue the pressors, but make sure it checks out on a manual cuff (which it did). When the new nurse comes back on shift they chew me out, saying it doesn't matter that the arm is lower the leg is higher. And says this in front of other coworkers and makes me look like a moron. Do you think I was right? As a reference here is the AACNs opinion on noninvasive BP monitoring. http://www.aacn.org/WD/Practice/Docs/PracticeAlerts/NIBP%20Monitoring%2004-2010%20final.pdf Tell me what you think!
  11. I have been nursing for about a year now on night shift, and one thing has been bothering me for awhile. If a Pt is not incontinent and filthy why are we bathing them at night. I have had many Pts that are alert and oriented state(Not a vent Pt) "No I do not want a bath or my back cleaned." and then day shift complain saying "That's not okay with me, I am going to bathe them if they like it or not." Is that not wrong, a Pt can refuse right? In comparison I only take a shower once every two days(Unless needed), and do perfectly fine, and would be ****** if someone woke me up to bathe me at 3am in the morning. Any-who what is everyone's thoughts on this.
