I think shadowing is a great idea. When I started teaching I studied as much as my students! I wanted to be sure I understood exactly what I wanted to teach them. Book world and real world are often different and I think becoming an educator has really helped me understand more about the "why" we do things.

the biggest complaint I get is over "too much homework" or that I am "expecting too much study time". I get it, it is a lot of stuff. (I teach in a ADN program) I do only assign stuff with a purpose, not busy work.

I am starting at Oklahoma Wesleyan in August. I obtained my BSN there and hoping that the DNP program is as good as the BSN.

"Oh, that is SO cute!". When the newish grad/new on my unit nurse found out that I was the NRP instructor for the hospital. To be completely fair, she started while I was out on maternity leave, and I only came back PRN, so maybe she didn't know me? I am one of the more experienced nurses on our unit (heck, in the hospital), and certainly know what I am doing. She did apologize the next time she saw me (a few days later), so its a by-gone now...

I always run antibiotics as a secondary. If the patient doesn't have an IVF order, I use a 100ml or 250ml bag of NS. I set the primary at say 125ml/hr, then set that VTBI for 75 mls. Then I run the antibiotic as a secondary and set it at whatever run rate is ordered and set the VTBI for the total amount. The pump then delivers the entire abx, instead of just a partial. I am of the belief that if 200mg of Ampicillin is ordered, then I need to do what I can to run all 200 mg of Ampicillin in, not leave it in the line. When the secondary pump is done, the line is flushed with the primary infusion. Then I saline lock. I even do this when I work ED, although I am in the minority in that area.

I am also starting my MSN-Education on Aug 1! I am very excited to get started. I finished my BSN with Oklahoma Wesleyan in Feb. I was hoping to start my MSN earlier, but OKWU wouldn't confer my degree until June 30th. Nice to "meet" you!
