  1. In a hospital or other 24/7 care facility, probably not. I was a head nurse in an outpatient facility and I did 4 9s with a half day on Friday for my admin time. I was always on the floor for procedures during my longer days.

    Am I being a jerk

Not at all. I don't know that I could have been as gracious.

    Religious accommodation means no Saturdays....ever?

The religious issue is a red herring, I'm afraid, and creates a fertile and divisive foundation for non sequitur arguments. Various staff have responsibilities, beliefs, and preferences so it is management's responsibility to maintain coverage. Perio...

    Addicts in the ED

Mi Vida loca, I have grown fonder and fonder of you because so many of your posts echo my own perspective . This one mirrors mine so closely that I felt compelled to do more than simply like your post. Keep on rockin' it!

One of our teachers just microwaved FISH in the cafeteria

I had a small personal thermal device, looked like a small fridge that I used as a home health and hospice nurse. It would warm or cool. But the warmer wasn't that fantastic. My soup, for example, would barely be lukewarm or palatable. The cooling fe...

Is there a niche for evening/night time practices?

Recently I had an ortho need and they had an after hours clinic. My urgent need was met. However, the follow up appt could only be during regular hours. I felt that was a missed opportunity because I'd either have to come up on my day off or miss w...

    Travel Nurse Practitioner Jobs

Recruiters love to send me locums offerings. If I Could, I'd consider the chance to travel and work with such a variety. Good luck. Have fun.

    Manager catch phrases

To avoid redundancy call it the PI team. Plus, there's the inside joke that it's irrational. 10 points to all who get it.

How to become a hospital NP?

My ERs prefer FNP to see all ages, but even better love the dual cert with acnp or the newer ENP.

For APRNs: What's your lifestyle like?

Yes. I am moving what I make over what I made as an RN to a savings account with the goal to pay off my house and student loans.
  15. What I rely on daily are: Pocket Medicine, UpToDate, Epocrates, and the Tarascon Hospital Medicine And of course, my colleagues. They are invaluable and each has offered pearls, insights. Some even ask ME for guidance on some things. (which floored m...

    Wearing secular head coverings?

I don't usually have bangs but on a particularly difficult case I somehow had a loose piece of hair fall in the way of catherizing a patient who had no ability to flex hips or knees. It was like trying to pry open rusty pliers. I took my clean trauma...

    C'Mon Now!

For Frank's sake. In 4th grade I wrenched my neck at school and had torticollis so bad I couldn't hold my head up. My friend said my neck was broken. At age 9 i was smart enough to know better.

Which specialty do you recommend? FNP, PNP, or another?

If you'd like to expand your options, FNP might benefit the most.

What Resources Do You Use for Hospital Medicine?

I wanted to add another: Qx calculate. Helps with several measures like PERC rule, CHADVASC, Wells score, etc.
