  1. What do you hate most about your job?

    Poop [emoji90]
  2. what's your pet peeve?

Coming out of a code and being reminded by a manager that I didn't update my white boards in all my patient's room. My jaw hit the floor, I then proceeded to pull out a marker, hand it to her and tell her if she's that concerned about it she could d...
  3. didn't call about anticoagulation

The nurse should have addressed this with you while you were giving report, they were way out of line to call you after report and clocked out. I would have been livid to receive a call like that, that late a night and would have told the nurse that...
  4. Answering Call Lights

Lol I've worked in several hospitals where this was " implemented". It's dumb and doesn't work. If the non clinical person actually answers the call light all they say is "let me find your nurse". It's not like they are actually going to help someon...
  5. Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!

You're actually the one who's making your job harder, not your patients.
  6. Should we put up with verbally aggressive relatives ?

It's unfortunate that undiluted phenergan was pushed obviously was a terrible error. But why would you come this forum and basically say that being a abusive family member is a promise? If you have grievances you take it up with the hospital, but yo...
  7. sitting with drug seekers.

Well sir, there is a difference between SCHEDULED medication and AS NEEDED pain medication. 9/10 the doctor is going to order it as needed, and some patients refuse to understand that. And it sounds like you are not a nurse, so you probably shouldn'...
  8. lasix not given..

    This whole thread is strange...
  9. I can't WAIT to say "Oh, me, I'm a nurse"

I'm sitting here on my lunch break wishing I had not gone into nursing. I also try to avoid telling people so they don't ask me health related questions. I've been a nurse for four year and I'm a bit jaded.
  10. When a patient signs out AMA...

Terrible turn of events. But I don't thinks a patient in DKA would be well enough to save a drowning child. Or even really be present enough to focus. I don't want to sound cold hearted, but if she had taken care of her self in the first place then...
  11. Once I had a doc order for a patient to have a thoracentesis on the left side. Patient is sent down for the procedure and the radiologist calls ME and says that there is more fluid on the right side and wanted to know if the ordering doc meant for t...
  12. Is it possible to get the holidays off?

I'm a travel nurse. My contact end December 16th and I start a new one January 4th. I'm excited that I'll actually have a Christmas break this year!
  13. educational value of care plans

I find that nursing care plans mean nothing outside of nursing school. You literally have to have doctor's order for everything.
  14. Sad story of an ex-new grad nurse

I would leave that hospital immediately. They were absolutely setting you up for failure. There is no way a new grad nurse can thrive on 5 weeks of orientation. That is less than what they orient seasoned nurse to a new unit at the hospital it work...
  15. I was happy once. Then I became a nurse

I agree, the only plus is I have amazing coworkers that make the job bearable.
  16. Jealous Friends...

I feel insulted that you are copying my career path! How dare you! I thought of it seven years ago OP!
  17. Is nursing school really "that" bad?

It was hard but I made sure that I had time for myself, so I didn't go crazy. Real life nursing is way worse.
  18. Why are the floor nurses so unwilling to teach?

Hahahhahahahahhaaha this is adorable coming from a student nurse who literally has no clue. I wish I could be there to watch as the reality of what real nursing is comes to slap you in the face.
  19. Negative Would have went straight for the NP
  20. Good day: 10 calls Bad day: 50+ calls Make me insane, why can't a/o patients update their own family members?
  21. Urgent! IV drip rate?

This isn't going to help you on your test, but in real life, in all the hospitals I've worked at I've only seen 10 meq of k in 100 ml of ns to be run over one hour. The only other way I've seen iv k is 20 meq in 1000 ml of ns/ .45 ns/ d5
  22. Allegations of Neglect

This is why I chart EVERY refusal made by a patient
  23. Price of Patient Satisfaction

We recently received complaints from family members that the patients weren't getting bathed for weeks at a time. Lie. So now our techs are required to do baths on the morning, as if day shift isn't busy enough, and if the patient refuses they have ...
  24. Would you wait for Dr orders?

I'm confused as to why you went to the room after you had clocked out? What business did you have being there?
  25. Now THAT'S a lab result

Also was taking report from the ED. Never saw this patient because I refused the assignment after I heard his h/h was 4/14 and hypotensive even after receiving 1 of four ordered transfusion. This was going to be my 5th patient in an already heavy te...
