  1. I graduated from the ADN program last month at age 59 and will be sitting for the NCLEX-RN on July 2nd. What an adventure this has been.
  2. I just put my pen in my mouth and tried to write with my coffee cup. Is this a sign that I've been studying too hard or that it's time for another cup of coffee?
  3. Thank you SO much. This is exactly what I needed as I find my anxiety level rising the closer I get to August 20th. Best wishes for success on your boards.
  4. Congratulations and best wishes to you. I will be starting my ADN program in August as the oldest student in the class. I'm 57. I'm sure your aunt would be very proud of you.
  5. Had my final tonight. Happy dancing about my A! My lecture prof was awesome.
  6. I can still hardly believe I'll be starting the ADN program in August! Our orientation isn't until July so I'm not sure what my schedule will be like. I wish I had a list of the textbooks we'll be using - I like to read ahead.
  7. Congrats to you! Supposedly good things come in small packages but I think happiness comes in a big envelope!
  8. I'm thinking about laminating my flash cards so I can study in the shower.
  9. Congratulations to you! And a toast to the class of 2014!
  10. Congratulations! Are you starting in fall or sooner?
  11. Congratulations! I just joined PTK also, although I don't know if it will have an impact on acceptance to a nursing program. I think it will be helpful if/when you move on for a bachelor's degree program. The information I received with my invitation indicated that PTK can be helpful with letters of recommendation and scholarships. It's all good!
  12. Congratulations to you!

As a hopefully-soon-to-receive-that-acceptance-letter nursing student, I can tell you that reading many of the posts in these forums - including the negative, hate-my-job posts - has been educational, enlightening, and sometimes frightening (politics!), but mostly inspirational. I am very appreciative of those who have taken the time to share their experiences, good and bad, and feel like I have a more realistic viewpoint as a result. Peaches88, it sounds like you work in LTC/SNF? That's the area I hope to work in some day, so I'm happy to know there are good points! Thanks.
  14. Congratulations! When does your program start?

Congratulations! Are you currently taking those courses or are you taking them over the summer?
  16. Good answer! I'm not sure how I would have answered the cheating question - I might have said that I was concentrating on my own exam and what any other student was doing was not my business; if the cheating was obvious to me I would have to think it would have been obvious to the instructor who would take the appropriate steps. Good luck!
  17. Darn - now I'll have to go with Plan B. :rotfl:
  18. Sickness is no excuse - but sometimes it's a reason. Just sayin'...
  19. It's not "lame" - it's normal. I took an algebra class last summer - more than one page of my textbook had tear stains on it because I felt so frustrated and dumb that I cried all over it. I have an IQ high enough to get me into MENSA, but I still question my abilities and wonder if I am really smart enough for the nursing program. I AM. It's funny how much we are willing to believe our own negative self-talk but deny or refuse to listen to positive self-talk.
  20. Had first lab exam last week on anatomical terminology, histolgy and integumentary system. I am disappointed with myself for only getting an 87; I will be studying even harder for the next one. First exam in lecture will not be until the 22nd. I find it a bit disorienting for lab and lecture to be at such different paces: content-wise, lab is way ahead of lecture. Is this the case for anyone else?
  21. Congratulations! What did you think of the TEAS test experience?
  22. A CNA course would probably be good. Supplemental courses like medical terminology? Volunteer opportunities in skilled nursing/ltc facilities. Have you already taken the TEAS or other entrance exam? If not, you could take time to get some serious studying done. Good luck.
  23. I don't know if it's just my monitor but I'm not able to read your entire post. From what I am able to see, though, I think you are on the right track. It might be helpful if you could expand #2 to include a very specific example - state exactly how/what you did that was an example of compassion/empathy.
