Interesting read from AZ state board of nursing

It's crazy to think of how different things are now, as compared to just a few short years ago. Four years ago, I had just been on my unit a few months, and we had tons of new grads ..... was even kind of scary the new grad to experienced nurse rati...

where did you take your cpr class?

I always take my class through here: http://www.cprinstruction.com/ They hold different classes throughout the valley which makes it convenient. It's $25 for Healthcare Provider AHA CPR certification.

    H1N1 -- in the NICU

I agree. The odds that she contracted this from the baby is very slim. Just because mom tested positive doesn't mean the infant will.

    Moving to Arizonia

Oh yeah, I see them all the time when I'm hiking, especially South Mountain, I've just never had one in my house. I bet the folks in Anthem find tons in their homes, as that's so new up there ..... I remember when NOTHING was even up there, it was "o...

    Moving to Arizonia

I've lived here 29 years and have never had a scorpion in my house :) Although it might be a normal occurrence in some parts of the valley (newer/underdeveloped areas). To the OP I ditto what the others say about having a job in hand first.

    Financial Aid Help

If you can't qualify for government loans, the only other choice would be private loans (although you'd most likely need a co-signer).

Staffing in a level III NICU

We staff by acuity. Fortunately the unit I work in is well staffed and our assignments are usually staffed the way they should be. We have "acuity sheets" that each baby has in their chart. We score them based on a number of things (type of vent, uns...

Starting Clinical Preceptorship in NICU Sept 3...

Lots of good advice here already. Just wanted to say congrats!! I did 144-hour preceptorship right before I graduated and I absolutely loved it. Good luck to you, I wish you the best. And feel better!
  17. Like hikernurse, I go through all the systems, even if they're WNL. Our Kardexes are lifesavers! They go through all the systems and what's happened in each category thus far. So as I go through the Kardex I am able to hit on each aspect. I would hav...

    malpractice/liability insurance for NICU RN's

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Don't think your hospital will protect you. They will NOT. This argument is similar to the thinking of not getting auto insurance, in hopes that the "other guy" is insured. It's quite a gamble and a huge risk to take.

Old NICU RN needs advice on re-entering workforce

If you re-activated your license, then I don't see why you should have to go through a refresher course. The way they would handle this situation on my unit would be to offer you a 12-week orientation (like a new grad) or however long you think you'd...

What are the best NICU books you've read?

I'll have to check those out. I read Saul by Rosemary Kay, on the recommendation of Gompers a while back. Loved it.

    FOOTPRINTS

We aren't required and we don't do it for hospital record. Usually in the first couple of days (depending on how stable the kid is) we do a set of footprints to put on the name signs we make for the babies. And after that we do them at the parents' ...
