I'm currently in NCAL. My net is > $2000 week on a 36 hr a week contract. I'm just north of San Fran. I also travel in an RV. The RV parks in and around San Fran will mostly have a waiting list. There's one in San Jose with a 2 year wait list...
It happens alot in ER. Some mixed ERs will take those with just Peds ER or Adult ER experience and train you. I'm not big on peds myself. I had a peds ER that wanted to take me, but I just don't feel comfortable working with all children so didn't...
I did alot of research and sifted through alot of recruiters. I'm now signed up at a grand total of 8 agencies. But I can tell you of that 8 I regularly use only 3. Why? Because I require 3 things. Prompt communication (if I text or email during bus...

I always get the prelim pay package in text or email first. Actually got one via FB message a few days ago. I always have a written contract to review no later than 48 hours after acceptance. You might want to light a fire under your recruiter and g...

There are FB groups just for travel nurses and some even specifically for yravel nurse housing. Just type in The Gypsy Nurse or Travel RN and a bunch should pop up.
I just read on one of the Facebook grouos about a bunch of travelers getting their Jan contracts cancelled in CO so I'd make sure to ask your recruiter about that. I didn't really pay attention to why but I think it had something to do with a bunch o...

What about local agency? I signed up with one of my local agencies and work when I want when I am at home. No minimum amount per pay period or month. I just need to work at least one shift a year for them to stay active in their system. It's great...
Question for you all. Has anyone here taken a contract in a specialty that is not your usual but that you could do? For example, I'm ED. I think I'd feel comfortable taking a tele or pcu/step down spot based on my training in the ED. At my home hospi...
So I was talking to one of my recruiters and their agency uses an online taped interview and test for Kaiser facilities. She said it's good for a year and managers review this instead of personally calling you. Anyone ever done this before? What's ...

I honestly can't remember the exact questions but they were all common sense. No clinical. Like how would you placate an n irate family member and I think there was a question on how many times you called off in the previous year. You'll do fine.

All of the agencies I've dealt with so far will only take a written reference if you've worked with them before. If you are new to them they will insist on calling and "verifying" any written references. I still get written one's every where I go and...
For all of you locum tenems out there, a few quick questions, I'm currently a travel nurse. Love the travel, not so keen on staying a bedside nurse. I'll be getting my NP here eventually and have heard of locum tenems NPs. After getting a few year...
You are me about 10 years ago! My story board in a nutshell: LPC - BA and MS in Psychology - lots of loan debt Moved to another state Wanted to pursue PMHNP But I was more broke than Nicholas Cage or Fifty Cent combined So..... Got my accelerated BS...

Obviously it can be done. I doubt Argo is confused as to which company he works for. Again, I don't know. If you agreed to a 1pm start time for your shift for example, why is it such a big deal to write that into your contract?.....Unless.....they...
I'd recommend joining Travel Nursing: The Premium Job Board and The Travel RN Job Group. They are FB groups you can join to see what agencies are offering. The rules of the group are that recruiters must post specifics like pay packages. Recruiters ...

It took me 5 months. They lost my school transcripts multiple times. Always a different story when I called. It's ridiculous. Luckily I didn't need that license right away.

VAnurse1022, How does the housing work? Can you take a stipend (I travel in an RV)? Will they pay you an all taxed rate if you do an assignment in your tax home? How is the pay in comparison to non va agencies? Sorry for all the questions. I trie...

I'm currently signed up with 5 (or is it 6 now?) agencies. One is an AMN subsidiary that I use when want a specific location only they have. They do pay less usually than others but I haven't had any problems with them. I'd say pick one large cross...
On Facebook. Search for Travel RN Group and Travel RN: The premium job board. It's a mix of recruiter posts and Travel rn s posting their pay packages. Pretty enlightening. The recruiters are encouraged to post the specifics of the entire package...
I'm signed up with five....no wait I think it's six now. Oh my...I'm starting to lose track I've traveled with two of them so far. My procedure is to send a mass email (bcc of course to each recruiter) stating desired locations, shift, and salary ...
I've only done high volume high acuity ED assignments so far. No triage, but I can understand why. It's just more efficient to have triage nurses who are very experienced with the unit flow and protocols to take care of that. No loss for me. I do lo...

If you choose a perm position at a facility that will pay for your NP that would be a benefit. I myself will be completing a mental health NP as I continue to travel. It's difficult but can be done. I only travel 6 months out of the year though.
