  1. Klone is referring to Hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) not HIB or HPV which is not given to infants in the hospital before they are released i.e. HBV.
  2. I say go where ever you can get a job! May not be that "exciting" place you are expecting, but it will be a first start in your journey for some where other than where you are now. Good luck
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought HIPAA covered patient information not anyone else. I hardly see where you could be faulted for a HIPAA violation in referencing the aunt who was not a patient. Meh..all this BS starts to get on my nerves. People just need to get a grip and get over themselves.
  4. Good luck to you Gin820. I have been accepted for the fall FNP start date and I'm really excited. Can't wait to meet more people in that cohort. Let me know how it goes for you.
  5. Awesome tip. Thanks for passing that along.
  6. I agree with Pangea. NOT the students lane of fire. In fact, this may even draw the student into being the focus of unintended scrutiny.
  7. You are probably well advised to volunteer or shadow a nurse for several days before committing yourself to nursing. I'm telling you right now there is no way you are avoiding vomit, poop, sputum, blood, the smell of C-diff. Sorry but that is all part of nursing.
  8. I'm a DA Civilian nurse working in occupational health. Even though I'm a veteran, I don't qualify for the veteran bonus points and even though I'm a dependent spouse, I don't qualify for spouse preference. What did get me the job was the three years of experience in the field the supervisor was looking for. In addition, DA civilians are not eligible for hire until they meet the one year of experience requirement. This includes LPN's who are going back to school for RN status. Look at USAJOBS for job postings and you can hand carry a resume to the post Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) for direct hire options. Hope this is helpful to someone.
  9. Thanks for posting. I love seeing old nursing photographs.
  10. Now, THAT'S funny!
  11. This one makes me think of happy puppies! How could it not be my fav? Love it!
  12. If math is not your strong suit, I'd do a math refresher course.
  13. I graduated my ASN school in 2008. The oldest person in our class was 62. Since our graduation he has gone on to earn his BSN and complete NP school. Age is just a number. Don't let it hold you back from the things you want to do.
  14. Good for you! Sounds like you are finding your balance. I'm personally grateful that this year long deployment my husband has been on is almost over. Fingers crossed we have less than a month before he comes home.
  15. The truth of the matter is that under the circumstances you describe, you will never change the environment. They have already set the battlefield and you are just fresh fodder for the cannons! I wouldn't quit outright but I would be actively looking for another suitable position. It's amazing how fast a negative environment can affect us adversely. I'm talking from personal experience.
  16. Another aspect of nursing I think is flawed. How did we get to this point where we let employers treat us this way AND get us to drink the kool-aid that this is "just the way it is"? I'm constantly baffled, but at a loss as to how to promote the change. It just seems there are many more nurses who are willing to take the crap than are willing to mount a revolution. I do understand the need to earn a paycheck...
  17. When another person charts under your name, you become responsible for that charting. Maybe its just me but I'm not having that. I refuse to accept responsibility for someone else's actions.
  18. Yep, you've run across one the most prevalent problems in nursing. You are going to have to figure out how not to give a crap what they think. Just keep doing what is right for your health.
  19. It affects me the same way. The more I drink the more I want to drink. But goodness, when I drink water I have to pee every 30 minutes it seems. When I'm only drinking Diet Coke, I only have to go a couple times per day. But I know the water is better for me.
  20. I found out early on that the AA's I was working with did not have my best interest at heart. After learning the hard way by listening to bad advice from them, I never followed their lead again. I was better off researching my own questions and trailblazing my own path.. Seems to have worked so far.
  21. I have been accepted for the August class. Hope you hear back soon.
  22. Bagels for breakfast and a metallic water bottle labeled "made from China". My co-worker handed it back and said "no thanks".
  23. Quite frankly, I'd call a lawyer. Sounds a little fishy. I can't see how that would be legal, but I'd check to be sure.
  24. Good! Nobody batted an eye at an individuals rights being trampled on when it came to smoking but I bet this is likely to catch the attention of all those people who poo poo'd the slippery slope argument about personal freedoms. You can't have one without the other people. It's all connected.
