Hey all! I just got accepted early for Summer 2012!! I got my letter yesterday, did anyone else get theirs yet? :)

I bought the study guide and it helped a LOT. I was clueless about the format and content so I purchased the book 2 days (oops) before the test. The practice test was identical in format and I thought the questions in the book were harder than the ones on the actual test so it's nice that it sort of over-prepares you. I'm sure your book does this too, but the answer sheet for the practice test came with explanations for the correct answer and I caught some potential mistakes I would have otherwise made on test day. I wound up doing really well so I'd say the book was a great help! That being said, if you already have a study guide I wouldn't go out and get a new one!. Oh, after typing this, I realized I was talking about the Secrets of the TEAS exam guide haha hope this helps! Hi there! I'm a student at UGA looking at MCG for BSN too. This is my second year living in Athens and I absolutely LOVE it. There's always a ton of stuff to do and it's a hugely welcoming city. Downtown Athens is pretty small so it's no where close to NYC but I think you'll really like it if you move here. Athens-Clarke County is one of the poorest counties in the state and I've heard Augusta's not a great place to live (sometimes called Disgusta?) but I'm sure the campus is great. UGA campus is very safe and nice and MCG is moving onto campus next fall so that will definitely be good. At the moment I think the school is in a shopping center.....I've heard the program is extremely competitive since it's the only public med school in GA and they accept 50 students to each campus. I think they try to accept mostly in-state students since it is public, but that being said, I'm sure you have a wonderful application and will have no problem getting in :)

Since you're in a 4 year program, your experience for the first two years will likely be like that of any other college student since you'll mostly be knocking out pre-reqs which are basically normal classes. Once you get into your last 2 years (actual "nursing school") then you'll be way more packed. Keep in mind that although you may only be taking 15-18 hours, you will have to devote much more time out of class (the expected amount is 3 hours outside of class for every hour in class) to your courses, which is where the "no social life" aspect comes in. It all depends on how well you absorb what is taught in class, how long it takes you to learn material, etc. Plus, clinicals take up a lot of your time, which isn't always calculated in your semester hours. This is all what I have read from this site, not personal experience but hopefully it can help you. I'm a sophomore in college and will be transferring to another school for my BSN and my college experience has been great so far, I've had a lot of time for a social life. I'm sure you'll be able to balance it especially the first 2 years. I hope everything works out well for you!

Hi! I'm applying to nursing schools and I'm looking into military nursing. Has anyone here been a nurse with the Navy, Marines, or Army? The websites seem vague. I know for MDs they put you through school, is nursing like that or do they just help you repay your loans? What is military nursing like? Did you like it? Where were you stationed? I'm just exploring the field so any help you can give would be much appreciated!!

I'm not in nursing school yet (same as you, I start next year) but I have always found binders to be really heavy and annoying to carry around so I have switched to composition and spiral notebooks. It may just be me, but I always seem to tear pages out of binders as I write in them, turn pages, etc. The notebooks cut down on this and are much smaller/lighter! I don't get many handouts in class, but I usually print out ppts or articles so having a binder at home to keep those in would be helpful. You could put the noteboook in the binder at home if you wanted then just take the notebook to class. I'm huuuugee on calendars because I'm notorious for misremembering due dates. Write down the dates of tests and due dates as soon as you get the syllabus so you're not surprised when those days come. I keep a wall calendar and a planner.I would definitely keep everything in your backpack if you can or at least pack it the night before so you don't forget anything. Best of luck!!

Thank you so much for posting this! I am a pre-nursing student and I am so grateful to read about "real world" nursing here. You sound like you have a great grip on life and I applaud you for persevering through all those applications without getting discouraged! I am sorry to hear about your traumatic first night but I really appreciate you writing about your experiences here. You sound like a wonderful nurse, keep on keeping on!

My boyfriend's mom is 46 and just graduated from nursing school; she works in ICU and she couldn't be happier! She has 2 kids in high school & college. She says nursing school was really hard, but she loves being a nurse! I think she also likes that since she works nights she only works 2-3 days a week so she has time to recover, spend time with the family, etc. Best of luck to you!!
