  1. Experienced nurse now inexperienced

I am in the same boat and recently applied for a refresher course. My problem is that the thought of going back to nights, holidays, weekends, and an over-worked situation doesn't appeal to me. In fact, I'm scared. My life as a stay at home mom has b...
  2. Nurses~

Seriously?!?!?! WOW, that is fantastic!! Those nurses are very lucky to have you honoring them in such a way. I was always happy to get a tote bag.
  3. How I Got My Dream Job!

Thanks so much and congratulations! What unit will you be working on?
  4. Opinions please asap

I like the idea of bringing your family. I know for me, personally, I could not leave my children. Let us know what you decide. It sure does sound like a great opportunity!
  5. What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?

I am sitting here reading these stories and an onion randomly fell out of it's bowl, off of the kitchen counter, and onto the floor. It scared the sh!t out of me.
  6. RN going back to work as an LVN

Thanks for the update! I agree with the others too. Best to you!
  7. So tell me.. What's New?

Just wondering how long have you been out and specifically what are you going to be doing? Did your refresher have clinicals? I'm thinking about doing this too.
  8. How long did you lurk before you joined?

    About one month!
  9. Do you ever get tired of hearing this phrase?

I'm not as worried about loosing my license as I am worried about making a mistake. It is true, when I was in critical care I often worried I would make an error or miss something. Not an unimportant error, but a major error. I would never forgive my...
  10. What is the most interesting case you've seen in the ER?

    Holy Sh!t.
  11. What is the most interesting case you've seen in the ER?

    Seriously? That is interesting.
  12. What were the two most important things?
  13. I gave two weeks,,,but I dont want to finish

Yep, I have done that too. Wish I would have finished too.
  14. Back to hospital nursing?

Hey, I am in similar shoes, but gave it 1 1/2 years. How long have you been away? I have been away about 10 years. I am probably going to take a refresher course that includes lecture and clinicals. Good luck on your interview!
  15. Giving Report...Please help.

I will be interested in hearing responses to this post. I haven't worked bedside in 10 years so I'm a bit rusty. I worked ICU and my report went something like this: Name, age, gender, diagnosis, history... Then I would discuss each system: Neuro C...
  16. Well? Did you go in? Hope you feel better.
  17. Yay! In my opinion, this is absolutely the right decision. Let us know how it goes. Congrats!!
  18. RN going back to work as an LVN

Sounds fishy to me too. Don't risk it.
  19. Hi again! I have been thinking about your situation since I posted yesterday. I also wanted to add that I think I would take the neuro opportunity before I would take the ICU position. Getting your foot in the door at the trauma center would be ideal...
  20. Interestingly enough, I totally disagree with the other posters. I took an ICU job at a community hospital right out of my BSN program. It was a larger ICU (20 beds) and we did have drips, post heart surgeries, gi bleeds, balloon pumps,AAA repairs......
  21. Feeling bad, like I "ratted out" a nurse

    What ever happened??????
  22. Alas...bedbugs-precautions??

Nasty! I can't stand bugs either.
  23. What's the task you like doing most on the job?

Hey, I did that exact same job too! I wouldn't say I loved it. Definitely less stressful than ICU, but missed the patient interaction. My caseload was around 400-500 so didn't have time for many home visits. I didn't think I'd see anybody on here wit...
  24. Using

I'm laughing about this, but it really isn't funny. I always enjoy your posts Esme. What I don't understand is, if retention is important why not try to please your employees? I know the budget is important and necessary, but I look at a unit and see...
  25. Is nursing really for me?

As a new grad I went to adult ICU. I was so stressed before, during, and after EVERY shift. I stuck it out for 1 1/2 years. My supervisor really wanted me to stay. She promised me I would have less anxiety with more experience. I ended up leaving for...
