Hey everyone thanks for all the comments. I had posted this back when I was still a fresh nurse. I still think about this kid and since then learned so much. I still work with children and have learned to set limits when a child is being mean to another person. I usually don't get upset at them now when they have an attitude problem and are just not listening to directions. I now approach it in a more therapeutic way I guess you can say. I give much attention to children who are acting out to get to the root problem of their actions. (Most of the time they just need a hug and reassurance) Ahh yes saying "who's going to pick these up" was not the best choice of words to say to a non ambulatory pt. I was just so upset I was getting toys thrown at me. My go to words now are usually "you can't be mean to people that's not cool" which they usually understand and stop.

In third semester you are expected to be able to perform routine procedures, but saying comments in front of a patient was uncalled for. She could have pulled you off to the side and said these things. Brush it off... it happens, try to see if you can practice in a skills lab to be better prepared next time.

Hey guys, Really need some tips right now. Currently in the bathroom at work trying to keep calm and not breakdown at work. I just caught my partner of 10 years in so many lies.. including drug use which we both left behind years ago.. or so I thought. I feel like I'm about to cry at work, can't leave early because I have no relief. Just curious how do you guys keep your cool at work when your personal life is falling apart.

Nope not forbidden. I used to drink on the weekends while in nursing school. Never ever go hungover to school or clinicals. I have a rule for myself not to have a drink 24 hours before being with a patient.

I thought I failed! It shut off on minimum questions and I was only there for less than an hour. When my sister picked me up my eyes got full of tears, so we went out for drinks right after.

Yes!! I get the "worship satan" all the time. And when people say they'll pray for me(but in a disrespectful way) it's really nasty. I have a nice older coworker who always tells me god bless you, I don't correct her because it's her way of telling me she thinks im an awesome nurse. And I'm not about to give my 60/70 year old coworker crap for it especially when she's always so happy to see me.

A lot of people can be so careless. I knew someone who would have loaded guns out in the open with a baby crawling around, that's no longer the case after everyone told him how mindless he was. Ugh careless. But growing up I was exposed to guns and showed proper way to clean them (my dad was a hunter), they were all in cases but without a lock(why?!??). As an adult I hate the idea of guns, the scare me, but it's there to use it if I ever had to (on a human, because animals are friends not food). A few years ago my drug dealer neighbor decided to bring his drama in my driveway and start shooting, instead of grabbing the gun I ran to the bathroom locked the door and called my dad(yeah before the cops). In situations like this I wish I was more prepared with a gun just in case they decided to come into my home, instead I was crying in the bathroom.

I love this question. I usually don't go up to strangers and take their baby's vitals. I don't turn strangers every 2 hours. I don't listen to strangers lungs. I usually have a drink with people in a social situation which is frowned upon in the nurse-patient relationship.. but I did find a bottle of wine in the med cart once

I actually have a patient with a similar order. Polyeth glycol 1/2 cap "may give twice prn" usually AM nurse gives it with morning meds and holds if pt has diarrhea. And PM nurse only gives it if pt hasn't had a BM for more than 2 days. So that's pretty much like the first scenario.

Depends what route you take, it varies.

I did the ATI tutor it cost around $200 about 4 years ago. I found it very helpful. Passed my nclex on the first try, minimum questions and in less than an hour.

If you're already accepted into RN I would go for it. I'm an lvn currently doing the bridge program to RN. I don't regret becoming an lvn first but if you're already accepted to the RN program go for it. Usually lvn-rn bridge programs require transition courses which could take 1-2 semesters
