  1. Question from a nursing student

Monopolizing the computers is super annoying. On the other hand stocking supplies without being asked is lovely!
  2. You actually can even take two now and one in the fall, you can be in the process when applying, as long as you will have completed it before January. I might recommend pairing nutrition with one or the other and then doing one in the fall. Welcome t...
  3. I did the nutrition, microbiology and A&P 1 & 2 through the online U of R courses. There are no labs so they might not transfer to other schools.....stats and developmental psych I took online through the local community colleges ( at a huge ...
  4. Any RNs or nursing students in Western NY?

I'm a new RN in Rochester. Job prospects here are good right now. I believe everyone that applied locally from my graduating class (Dec) has a job. Of the new hires, my hospital seemed to hire a mix of BSN-ADN. Most of those with ADN are planning to ...
  5. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I really feel the need to refute some of these points (and my only connection is that I am a proud grad). 1) the only classes where attendance was required were labs and clinical. 2) wouldn't it b...
  6. I just graduated in December. Despite the hefty price tag, I was very pleased with the curriculum, faculty and clinical experiences. The program has an excellent reputation. Most of our class already have jobs and passed the NCLEX.
  7. I only know new grad rates.....$23.50/hr. Benefits include medical/dental, pd vaca, tuition assistance for MSN and NP (Can be totally covered depending on hospital)
  8. Suggestions for NCLEX review books other than Saunders?

    Lippincott
  9. Anybody taken Statistics Online?

I took mine online through my local cc....it was easy to follow, we had a good book. Assignments each week and a semester long project. Only math class I ever got an A in!
  10. I am in my last semester of an Accelerated program. I have 3 kids under 10. My best advice is to go in with the knowledge that something will have to give. My house isn't always perfect, I have become happy with B's, dinner is often take out...but I ...
  11. for those of you in a ABSN program

I began an ABSN program in January. 1st semester 1st 6 weeks classes /labs from anywhere from 9-530. Our cohort was split into 2 labs, so you were able to pick an early or late lab. Fridays we were done by 12. Our clinical days the last 6 weeks were ...
  12. accelerated bsn

You can try the University of Rochester...only about an hour father than Buffalo. It is a competitive program, but your grades and experience look good. They offer admission 3X per year - January - May - September. It's a 12 month program.
  13. Just from another perspective, being an a psych unit would give you valuable experience in therapeutic communication - and you will have to deal with psych issues in any specialty.
  14. What are your other degrees in?

    BA in International Studies
  15. I use BN for most of my books, but also Abebooks and ebay. I go thru the ebates website. It's free to register and when you enter member sites (and there are 100's including BN) you get a percentage of your purchase back in cash. They are reliable an...
  16. Borders going out of business!!!!

I feel bad for those losing their jobs, but never one to pass up a deal, I scored a sweet deal on the Saunders and Lippincott NCLEX reviews.
  17. What color is your uniform?

Navy pants, white scrub top, white shoes or sneakers.
  18. ? for those that have health insurace...

So it's a big conspiracy to keep certain people out of nursing school. I appreciate your passion about discrimination and certainly do not endorse it, I just think you are reading more into this than is there. For heaven's sake the gov't is requiring...
  19. ? for those that have health insurace...

You know I have a real problem with the sue, sue, sue mentality. There are real reasons that they would require health insurance and I'm pretty sure it is not limited to nursing students. My university makes low cost insurance available to those who ...
  20. Nurses/Moms-your advice, please! :)

Are you sure the ABSN you are looking at is less hands on? I am enrolled in one now and our clinical hours actually exceed a traditional 4 year program. I would go for the BSN, it will help you more in the long run.
  21. The Made Incredibly Easy books

I've used only the med calc one as I am math-phobic. Found it helpful, really broke things down in an easy to understand format. Not sure about any of the other titles though.
  22. ? for those that have health insurace...

Had to provide a copy of insurance card as well as apply on line for a waiver of university health coverage by providing the same info.
  23. early reading

Relax, enjoy the weekend and go into school refreshed. Believe me, nothing you read in the next day or two is going to get you that far ahead.
  24. Pysch Nursing clinical

Just finishing my rotation now. Not my cup of tea, but it is a great learning experience. I doubt you will see the level of collaboration and team work that you see in psych anywhere else.
  25. must haves for lecture and clinicals

For clinical my rule is it has to fit in my pockets or it doesn't come. We have no lockers on the floor and there is just limited room to leave clipboards and such. I bring a 4 color Bic pen, little pocket notebook, stethoscope, itouch for drug guide...
