  1. How soon have you quit a job?

Is the patient load different than what they told you it would be during your interview?
  2. so ticked off...

There must be practice books that Kaplan has out there with these types of problems in it. The only way you will get better is to keep studying and doing these types of questions. There is no magic solution unfortunately.
  3. role of nurse tech in nursery?

We just recently had a tech that transferred from a med-surg floor to our NICU. She said she couldn't believe how much slower it was. She went from being responsible for many of the vitals, blood sugars, and baths on the unit to having the nurses do ...
  4. Anyone cutting sugar while working nights??

My unit finds some excuse to have a "party" at least once a week (so and so's birthday, baby shower, or let's just throw a party because it's a Tuesday, etc etc) which ALWAYS involves cake, cookies, and candy. It makes it very hard to stay away from ...
  5. Finally!!

That is HUGE! You should feel very proud - congrats!
  6. Help PLS :) Help me earn for my BSN.

I don't know why but I'm afraid that if I click on that link my computer will get a virus...I guess that's the hypochondriac nurse in me.
  7. Failed NCLEX 5 times

I am so sorry you are going through this. Is it a myth that you can only take the NCLEX 6 times total? I thought someone told me that once...that after the 6th time you must re-do the entire nursing program (uh, no thank you!) Honestly, if this is NO...
  8. Areas of the country with jobs for new grads?

North Carolina. They are giving new grads jobs like CRAZY at my hospital. I got into the NICU as a new grad here, and there were new grads in my orientation that got jobs in L&D, OR, and ICU as well. Plus, it's a great state to live in! You shoul...
  9. Are colors consistant across all brands of scrubs?

I was actually wondering this very thing a few weeks ago. I ordered navy colored scrub top and bottom from two different brands online and and they did turn out to be the same color. I think it's supposed to be pretty standard to keep the colors exac...
  10. How do you "bond" with your patients?

I bond with my patients by sneaking them a little extra sweetease during a heel stick or by singing them nursery rhymes while I rock them to sleep...they LOVE me for it! :)
  11. Definitely made mistake, now paying for it...

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. Night shift can be hard on anyone, but I can imagine it would be especially hard for a single mom. Keep your head up, pray, and apply apply apply!
  12. I had another nursing student as my roommate though out the program (not during prereqs). We were in the same class and also very good friends which is why my advice will not directly apply to your situation...but I really liked having a roommate. Th...
  13. Get through it without laughing - dare ya

Oh the ways alcohol can cloud our judgment...I didn't find it humorous. But I'm also dead sober.
  14. How old were you when you finished nursing school?

Finished RN, BSN at age 22. I haven't regretted my decision to go into nursing for a second!
  15. I don't have advice for you, but wanted to let you know I am in a similar situation...well, pretty much that exact situation. It is driving me crazy playing this waiting game! Good luck to you - keep us updated!
  16. Help! Need to make a decision quickly

Keep the part-time. You will probably not enjoy the commute to work for the first job (or spending the gas money to get you there), plus it's less pay! Pick up extra shifts, and let it be known you would like to be considered for a full time position...
  17. Know any ultrasound/sonographers personally?

I can't imagine that the math for sonography school would be THAT much harder than the math for nursing school
  18. Need advice-should I apply AGAIN or let it go?

I would let it go. Sorry!
  19. HIV testing question

You do not need to be a 'sex worker' or IV drug user to contract HIV...all it takes it unprotected sex ONE time with ONE person to be at risk. Having said that, you are probably fine.
  20. A little advice poowease

What's a "poo wease"? Sounds gross.
  21. New Grads ....how long until they can float ?

In my unit we were not allowed to float until the 6 month mark
  22. How would YOU like to see a nurse portrayed in the media?

I thought Boston Med on ABC did a pretty good job portraying nurses, although it was all real life footage (or at least that's what they say) so I suppose it makes sense.
  23. I work in the NICU and get pulled to central nursery or peds when we are overstaffed and they are short. Trust me, it is NEVER by choice.
  24. Best places for new grad hires?

News Flash - There is no nursing shortage.
  25. It finally happened to me....

I can't believe your hospital hires new grads into the float pool...that seems incredibly overwhelming! I am sure you are doing a great job, maybe eventually you can apply for a permanent position on a floor that you dislike a little less than the ot...
