  1. Confused Pre-nursing student

There are too many different types of nursing to have a "typical day" or even a typical nurse. Is there an area of nursing you are interested in? Perhaps someone from that area could better answer...
  2. What is an "Accredited" program?

Side note for the OP. The accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing is the CCNE, which is the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Most reputable grad schools will...
  3. I HATE nursing! (long)

The same gets said about NICU, all we do is feed and rock babies and hey - no heavy lifting. Well the babies may not be as heavy as your standard 200# ICU patient, but the equipment that has to be...
  4. is it "an NP" or "a NP"

Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Anesthetists are also advanced practice nurses, but they are not nurse practitioners. An NP is an APN, but is also still an NP, one title is not a substitution...

The half-life of marijuana is in excess of 72 hours.
  6. Allheart orders?

  7. HELP with online application!!

If there is a section of the application that asks if you have any kind of specialized training or experience, I might include a preceptorship there. But the preceptorship does not belong under work...
  8. Admitting its very existance would only bring attention to the fact that the article in question has turned them into the "National Enquirer" of professional journals. I am curious if the author has...
  9. You can pursue the degree as long as the infants you are dealing with are classified as "high risk". The real question is whether you will be able to find a job afterward. Will there be a position...
  10. Wondering about the travling nurse option...

LPNs can be travelers, but it may limit your options. Some places do not use LPNs, just like some places do not use travelers at
  11. People Are Big Babies Anymore

The day my employer puts into writing their expectation that I act "subservient" to anyone is the day they receive my 2-weeks written notice. That is not only insulting, but it is completely...
  12. We have this med order

The doc has to cover his backside, just like the nurses. If BID is the recommended and appropriate dosage, but the doc orders it differently to suit someone's fancy, it is the doc who is responsible...
  13. NC Nurse Legislation March 17th, 2005

    ...
  14. What Is The Schedule For A Travel Nurse?

Typical schedule for a travel nurse depends entirely on the unit s/he will be working in. Some allow self-scheduling. Some just fill in "holes" in the schedule with the travelers. Pretty much the...
  15. NNP hours?

I am hoping there is some sort of sleep room provided for the 24-hour shifters? (never assume - especially in health care!) How does the scheduling usually work for this type of set-up? A 24 and a 12...
  16. Funny how arbitrary it all is. The masters programs in my area are split 50/50 in whether they prefer NLN or CCNE. As others have said, it depends on the
  17. Being a NICU Nurse is a mistake!

Another quote you can take to your dad, The NICU has been noted as being the "one room in the hospital that even the surgeons are afraid of." (Edward Humes, Baby ER: The Heroic Doctors and Nurses...
  18. Unfair treatment

Yes, but some states let candidates retake boards as many times as it takes them to pass (no remediation requirement or anything). Bad policy, if you ask
  19. Bad Habits Nurses Develop

Doesn't really do anything except move the germs around unless you actually stand there and wait for the alcohol to dry before accessing the port. Most folks that do use the alcohol just swab and go...
  20. Out with "Nurse" In with...?

Dan Quayle must have thrown that one. Sorry, couldn't resist!
  21. LVN Vs. RN?

    :deadhorse poor
  22. Super Nurse?

I missed that one. Oh well, next
  23. Super Nurse?

What about X-Ray vision (to cut down on the facility's bottom line - they can charge for XR without having to do them) and the ability to leap onto a stretcher to perform CPR in a single bound? Don't...
  24. Does anyone know a good website to buy scrubs?

I would stay away from allheart, but that is just my opinion. If your experience is like mine, you will retire before you get your merchandise (an order I placed in January still has not found my home...
  25. Partially true. CCNE and NLN are equivalent accreditations. NLN is not the be-all-end-all. Some grad schools prefer one or the other, some accept both. No one else really cares.
