  1. Too lazy to adjust your alarms? or Don't know how?

In the ER I work in, it is against hospital policy to adjust the alarm settings....so....I'm not too lazy or don't know how...it's that I am not allowed. Does it annoy me? Yes, but I have learned to live with it.
  2. Lots of young people on disability?

Ok, let me just say, I work in an ER and here are a few clues that SOME not all are drug seekers.... In triage we ask a whole host of questions that review past and current medical and social history (we take a holistic approach to nursing at our fac...
  3. Okay, why do ER nurses think they're so cool?

I guess I am wondering why you would wait until an admission to call housekeeping to clean the room? Why wouldn't they have been called when the last patient left so the room is admission ready? Just wondering.....

  6. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

Could you give me the name of the non-profit group that does this? I would love to talk to them about how they got started, where they get funding, how they manage, etc. You can send a private message to me if you don't feel comfortable putting the...

  8. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is the group in this area that offers free bereavement photography. The photographers are all volunteer their services. At this point in our lives we just can't afford to volunteer that much time. Thanks for the thought...
  9. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

Thanks for your insight. I certainly would not offer this service if the reinbursment would come from the family's pocket! I am hoping to find hospitals willing to foot the bill in order for families to recieve the best care possible at their facil...
  10. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

I agree that I would not want to add another fee to an already hurting family. That's why I am looking at other funding options. I didn't, until recently, know that some hospitals hire doulas. That will be a good way to approach the nurse managers. N...
  11. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

That is a good thought--most of the people are strangers to her at that point already. My friend and I were kind of thinking along those lines as well. My friend and I both seem to be able to warm up to people quickly and there are very few people ...
  12. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

I guess what we want to figure out first is how we will get paid for this service. I know that sounds harsh, but we do have families we need to provide for. My friend is a trained doula, and I want to get the same. We plan to take some courses in...
  13. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

It does seem that it is the absolute busiest days/nights when the demises come, doesn't it? Susan
  14. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

Thank you all for your words of confidence in pursuing this. Here are just a few other thoughts we had. We have wondered if (obviously we could do a survey/talk to nurse managers in the area) hospitals might not be willing to pay us on a contract-...
  15. Doula services for Fetal Demise, Miscarriage, Stillbirth

We thought about the problem of not always being able to build that relationship ahead of time. The hope would be, that the doctor's offices would call us first (before sending the pt to the hospital--obviously if not a medical emergency) and give u...
