  1. CNA training, what to expect?

The main focus will be on skills. Of course you will learn things like....respecting the resident, residents rights, residents privacy. Honestly, I found all that common sense. Skills you learn will be like...making a bed, peritoneal care, catheter...
  2. What skills did YOU get at the CNA state exam?

In Georgia we have a written test and preform 5 skills. 1) A Measurement (For me it was BP) 2) Hand washing (everyone has this) 3) Occupied Bed-Making 4) Peri-Care 5) Foot care 3-5 are randomly drawn.
  3. CNA Programs in Atlanta, Georgia

GEORGIA PIEDMONT TECHNICAL COLLEGE! They have campuses in Clarkston and one in Covington. Great school and its about 5 months long =) You get hope if you're eligible but you have to pay school fees. Worth it!
  4. I would not say its normal because in my clinical we couldn't transfer residents or be alone with them in the showers for liability reasons. 2 students does not equal a CNA.
  5. Concerned mother..question about clinicals

I would like to add that in my LTC job, men aides work with men. And female aides work with mainly women. There is a rare time when a female CNA has a male, but its rare. I know it's not like that in most places, but that is my experience. Gender se...
  6. Taking a pay cut?

Good luck with the hospital interview! I hope you rock it too =) All the hospitals near me require CNA's to have a EMT certification. It's appauling that CNA's get paid minimum wage but I feel a job in nursing is better than a job at Home Depot (or...
  7. CNA now or wait for nursing school

As some others said, even shift is always available. It's normally 3pm-11pm and no one ever wants that shift, lol. I am a CNA and I want to go to LPN school but not immediately. I am of course in LTC but I'd like to work in a hospice or a hospital. ...
  8. First day of CNA clinical - Elder abuse?

As some others have said, you will have more than one patient BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN A PERSON SHOULD VALUE QUANTITY OVER QUALITY. In my clinicals, my CNA was awesome. She was fast and always listened to her patients. She was also done 30 minutes befo...
  9. Taking a pay cut?

It's only 40 cents. And from the places I've seen at least in Georgia - CNA is a minimum wage job. But there are pay differentials for the later hour shifts. Like 3p-11pm and the graveyard. I'm in home health and I get paid $8. I'm making a move to ...
  10. esl cna need help

Hello Zineb, is your frist language Arabic? Or maybe Urdu? Your name is a hint =) Anyway, English is my first language but at the long term care facility I work at, there are many CNA's who have English as a second language. Their first languages a...
  11. How often does the nurse visit ?

Yeap, I have a client who won't see an RN for the foreseeable future too.
  12. We don't hire new nurses.

I have found no matter what education you have or level, its hard to find a job. I have a sister in law who actually gets multiple job offers (her serendipity I guess) and a sister who has a higher degree who CANNOT find another job to save her life ...
  13. YAY!!! Passed my TEAS! :)

They give an interview!? My technical college is not preparing me for all this. I just learned about the TEAS test from my anatomy teacher 3 weeks ago, You'd think the guidance counselor would tell us this. Or at least post it on the LPN page on thei...
  14. Greetings Here is a brief background relevant to my topic: I have an expired CNA license (going to re-test in December god willing) and I am also currently a LVN student :) With this being said, I'd like to volunteer at a nursing home. Keep in mind...
  15. Any Muslim Nurses/Student Nurses in Allnurses?

Assalamu alaykum wa ramatullah wa barakatu Muslim nurses I do not yet wear the hijab but I plan to insha'Allah. Where I go to school there is 1 other Muslimah and she is a hijabi. She seems to not have any problems, but she's a very nice and polit...
  16. Volunteer gig, need some advice from senior nurses

perhaps reading to people sounds good. as for your "craft" idea: the thing is, at this nursing home, most of them have dementia/alzheimers and i did my clinical there. there is no kind of crafting done to my observations. there is a community room wi...
  17. What nursing school do you attend?

I am at Georgia-Piedmont Tech (formerly Dekalb Tech) and would like to obtain my RN with Georgia Perimeter :)
  18. Associates RN vs BSN

Wait, why does it matter if you have an Associates or a BSN? Both have to take the NCLEX-RN and pass it to show their competency, correct?
  19. Are LPNs being phased out?

Not in Georgia, my cousin has been a LPN for 6 years and she's worked in a doctors office, a hospital, and now shes a school nurse. Actually, I heard Medical Assistants & CNA's were being phased out. =0
  20. We pretended too in my CNA classes. We stayed clothed but went through the motions
  21. CNA or LPN??

NursL has the right information, but Poptart makes a good point. If you have time and some money to spare, i guess taking a CNA class to see if it's right for you is not a bad idea. Since my CNA classes took 5 months and were 100% covered by financi...
  22. Whare are some of the people skills you need as a RN?

Well considering they do a lot if not most of their work WITH people I'd say not taking things personally, being able to make or be fine with small talk and not get angry if asked repetitive or remedial questions. Let's see what other contributors s...
  23. I think I just ended someone's career

You didn't end it, she did that on her own.
