Good news/bad news: I was removed from the wait-list, unfortunately I wasn't accepted for admission. Good Luck to everyone, I think Drexel ACE is a great program and I wish good luck to all the students starting this fall!

The general rule is you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen to work for the U.S. government. So, if applying to work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, you must be a U.S. citizen and having permanent residence isn't enough. State and local governments may have different rules regarding who is eligible to work with them; however, employment with them is does not confer "status" for U.S. government employment. "Status" comes from being a current U.S. government employee or belonging to certain groups like: former U.S. government employees eligible to be re-employed, certain categories of veterans and so on. In certain rare situations, a U.S. government agency can petition for permission to hire a non-citizen for a hard-to-fill position. Previously, I was employed at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affair facility that was staffed with maybe 25% Filipinos. This included nurses, doctors, drivers, supply persons, building repairmen and so on. If I'm remembering correctly, USAjobs.com has a thorough explanation of work eligibility requirements.

If I'm remembering correctly, previous years' threads indicate that a second round of acceptances will come in March. I was reading with an eye toward coming off the waiting list and the situation may be different for others.

The NSBN website shows the BSN program to be fully approved. The CCNE website shows the BSN program fully accredited until June 30, 2017. If there any recent bad news regarding the program, I haven't been able to find it.

I'm having difficulty finding information regarding their nursing program or programs. This page references both an Accelerated BSN pathway and a BSN pathway. However, the nursing school pages reference only one 16-month program. The most current Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN) shows no Touro University graduates taking the NCLEX in 2014. Does anyone has insight to these two issues? I've emailed Touro University and I have received no response. In reading past NSBN minutes, I see they had difficulty with reaching adequate NCLEX pass rates, in recent years.

About one week ago I received a decision. Unfortunately, I was waitlisted...that's not good! I've completed the prerequisites and thought I had a strong application. Next week I'll email Drexel to see if there is any possibility of getting the decision changed. Drexel was the best fit for my particular situation. Perhaps I'll submit my TEAS V results, they're strong.

And...FWIW, I've completed the prerequisites and haven't yet received a decision.

Someone did ask about working. IIRC, the instructor answered that working would be difficult, schedule-wise and that she only remembered one student doing it successfully. My take would be that if I were working, I'd keep it on the DL and so the instructors wouldn't necessarily know. The admissions representative answered questions about financing. I believe she said there would be no scholarships provide by Drexel and that as a second degree program, students should expect little outside help.

Wednesday's information session went well. Both the admissions and clinical instruction staff seemed professional, open and candid. The prospective students had far more questions than could be answered during the session's time frame. Here are some points that I took away: 1) Fall cohorts typically begin with 80-110 students. Usually this group is then further divided into three groups. With attrition, the three groups are recombined to two. 2) The program is divided into four ten-week quarters. 3) The first quarter is classroom only (no clinicals), with classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. (My memory says classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but my notes say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...I imagine this would be easy enough to check) Expect to be at school 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. 4) The remaining quarters one can expect classroom Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Three of the following days will involve clinicals: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Students are expected at the clinical site at 6:30 AM and the day will conclude at 12:45.

On the positive side, they're looking closely at the application materials?

I agree! Typically air tickets get more expensive within two weeks, so it would great to have a decision by today or maybe tomorrow...LOL...I can dream.

I've decided Drexel ACE is the program for me, so news of a Spring '15 waitlist starting is important to me. My application for that cohort is still incomplete, as my status changed from complete to incomplete. They asked for another transcript about two or three weeks back. The waitlist news nudged me into applying to the Fall '15 cohort. For me, personally, each cohort has its own advantages and disadvantages. Regarding prerequisites, I complete them this past summer. My grades are solid.

My application has been complete about two weeks and changed to incomplete, today. I needed to update a transcript they previously received. I also had trouble finding a start date, though I have in my mind it is in March. The school calendar shows the spring quarter starting at the beginning of April, I believe.

I'm also hoping to get into the spring quarter...just waiting on a decision! My prerequisites are complete, I have great grades and great TEAS scores (...of course Drexel doesn't require TEAS.)

Thank you for your reply. It would seem, with 30 seats potentially spread among 14 states, that anyone's chance would be scant. A few weeks back I'd decided against applying to the program for this reason. But...then I scored really well on the TEAS V, so I decided to throw my hat in. Of course, applying means I'll need to continue taking prerequisites (Biochemistry) and become a CNA. The advantage, for me, is that I wouldn't have to sell my house and move. Additionally, I'm eligible for the Wisconsin GI Bill and that means a significant cost savings for me.

Greetings! I've started the application process for the May 2015 cohort, with the September 15, 2014 deadline in mind. I've completed the academic prerequisites, with the exception of Biochemistry; and I'm enrolled in that for this fall semester. Luckily, I scored well enough on the TEAS V that I won't need to take an advanced composition class. I live in Milwaukee and I've been taking prerequisites at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I haven't yet started my CNA training and I hope to have that completed in October or November. Once I decided to leave full-time employment to concentrate on prerequisites, I started doing very well and am thoroughly enjoying my classes. UW-Oshkosh uses prerequisite grades to determine GPA, so I should be competitive in that regard. My TEAS V scores were quite high, so I should be in good shape there, as well. My definitive weakness will be my lack of CNA experience. Past UW-Oshkosh ABSN threads show the lack of CNA experience trips up many applicants. Is anyone else thinking of applying?

the drexel ace website has been updated (since i last looked) and now reads: english (composition): 3 semester credits. english (literature): 3 semester credits.

Congratulations to those accepted! Does anyone have insight to the 6.0 credit English prerequisite? I "tested out" of "101" and took only "102," a 3.0 credit course. I'm not sure if I'll be expected to add another 3.0 credits.

Another choice could be Nevada State College. CSN has substantially lower tuition than UNLV. I became unemployed in July and wanted to finish my prerequisites as quickly as possible. I was hoping to take AP I, APII and Microbiology at CSN fall semester of 2010. Unfortunately, they did not accept my previous biology courses as prerequisites for these courses and required me to take BIO 189. To speed things along, I'm taking these courses online, from schools outside of southern Nevada.

I was happy to at least see this on the Discover Drexel port: Thank you for your application. Your file is currently under review. A decision has not been made regarding your admission status to Drexel University. Yesterday it was still reading something like: "we need all your transcripts."

Beyondtrouble, I fully understand your situation. I lost my job in July and just wanted to complete microbiology, anatomy and physiology. I wanted to just take those three classes this fall semester, but couldn't accept find a school to accept my previous biology courses as prerequisites. I looked (and continue to look) at numerous scenarios at getting these just three courses done. I finally decided Rio Salado was the best solution, as they have accelerated eight-week classes, starting with intro biology Its going OK, but not great. I may be one of those people who aren't great online learners. I also figured the tuition incorrectly, so its costing more money than I had anticipated. I'm moving forward, but not as the pace I would like. Had I began my planning two or three months prior to my lay-off, I could probably have completed everything during the past summer school. One of the situations I had not anticipated was the difficulty of getting into classes. Because of high unemployment, many people are enrolling and the popular pre-nursing classes fill quickly.

Unfortunately, I need anatomy, physiology and microbiology. I'm hoping for a fall 2011 entry into USN, though I recently applied to Drexel University, Philadelphia, also. I'm a little concerned about the difficulty of me adapting to online learning.
