Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Wow! You guys are just firing on all cylinders! Congrats to all of you! I just talked to the husband of our new Bishop, and I'm going to be applying for a year-long Certificate in Theological Studies at an Episcopalian Seminary in Berkeley, CA. Heck, I need to do something until I can apply again to nursing school.

Congrats to those of you with the Right Kind of letters! So, for the next year until I reapply to UCSF, I'm going to do a Certificate in Theological Studies, because I might wind up going to seminary in a few years!

OK, I just popped home to check the mail. There was a letter from UCSF! But it was a No, so it looks like I start working on other plans for the next year and apply again in the fall. *shrug* I reckon I'll start this evening off with a :beercuphe

Just called UCSF. The letters went out thursday and friday, with a few on monday. She couldn't tell me my *personal* status over the phone. Wouldn't be right. Call back if I don't get it by next tuesday. I'll be frank with you all, this was a terrible, terrible week to try to quit smoking.

*sigh* still nothing in the mailbox from UCSF. I could have *driven* down to pick up a letter at this point. Hmph.

Wife just called from home: STILL NO LETTER. I am going to kick the letter carrier so hard in the shins if a letter doesn't arrive tomorrow. Doesn't UCSF know I'm on msn messenger most of the day? They could just IM me!

Congratualations! My wife and I didn't exactly elope, but we had only our immediate families and a handful of friends at ours. 12 guests altogether. My good friend Devin was the Deacon (his last job at our cathedral before going back to Massachusetts to be ordained a priest) and our friend Ann was the Priest. Small Episcopalian service on Dec. 28th, '04. Any bigger and it would have overwhelmed us! Small is better, if you ask me.

Not for me. I'm an out-of-state student coming down from Seattle. I get the $12,000 extra tab! Part of me thinks that even if I do get in this year, I'll spend a year establishing residency down there and try again. Hmph.

Just got home. No mail from UCSF today. /me kicks the Post Office in the shins. Anyway, how on earth am I going to pay for $35,000 tuition if I get in?

I'm sorry, seahorse. Still, stiff upper lip. You've come a long way, done a lot, and there's still hope! Your family and friends better be supportive of you or we'll all give them a talking to.

Oh Lord, why did I have to check this forum tonight? Now I know that UCSF letters have been sent out and I have to bite my nails until they arrive. With regard to the Boston area schools, I was looking at Northeastern and BC, and when I visited the campus my mind was made up for me: BC just didn't give me a good vibe, while Northeastern seemed professional, dedicated, and accomodating.

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
It's just waiting, now, for UCSF to get back to me one way or another. I think if I don't go this year I'll try to do a year's training in Clinical Pastoral Education (which is essentially training as a hospital chaplain) if I can get in (all the seminaries over in Berkeley probably take up the slots) and then apply again. As an out of state student, UCSF is going to be, possibly, financially unfeasible for me this year. Anyway, plan for the worst, hope for the best. I do wish everyone the best of luck and the highest of spirits!

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
I'm still waiting to hear back from UCSF. I was a finalist, and to echo the sentiments posted here, a lot of what got me the interview seemed to be volunteer experience. Now, the big question is, if I'm accepted, I ask if I can defer for a year, since I'm starting to stress about the move to SF from Seattle. My wife is a high school teacher, and she'd be done around the same time I'd be starting at UCSF. So that means we'd move down to SF seperately, which would be incredibly stressful. Eeek!

Thanks Hopegirl. I'm nervous, of course, about how I'd pay for it, but I'll worry about that after I find out if I'm accepted or not. And by the way, I was down in San Diego last week for my honeymoon! It's a great city.

I've just been notified that I'm a finalist for UCSF's direct entry program in San Francisco. I picked Critical Care/Trauma as my focus. I've got a Bachelor's in History, a 13something GRE, 4.0's in my pre-reqs (Biology and A&Px2), several years of experience as a software engineer, and a year's volunteer experience at a hospital. I don't know anything about the numbers or why I'm a finalist. I'm supposed to go down for interviews in two weeks, so I'll let you know.

Misdiagnosed in the ER :(
Additionally, isn't cellulitis a "riskier" situation, thus inducing the ER to treat for the more serious dx?

Phenergan?
wait, the pH of Pheregan is 2.2, or the pKa is 2.2? How can a molecule have a pH by itself. Is it in a standard solution?
- Phenergan?

Offended by Prayer
That's the most wonderfully caring and humble thing I've heard lately, CCU NRS. Thanks for making my day, and bless you.

Offended by Prayer
"Under God" was added in 1954 after a Presidential Order by Eisenhower, largely as a response to growing anti-Communist sentiments that would lead to the witch-hunts of Joe McCarthy and the HUAC. After he wrote it, Eisenhower said "From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural schoolhouse, the dedication of our Nation and our people to the Almighty." And, yes, I'm a Christian, and yes, I feel that this is a violation of the seperation between church and state.

Offended by Prayer
I think it's great that you asked, CCU NRS. Far better to ask and listen than to make assumptions and personal attacks like jwk did.

Offended by Prayer
Well, there are those who wouldn't agree with you on all those points, but those of us who pray can keep each other in prayer.
