  1. What is the best computer to have for school?

If you were going to look at windows based systems, I'd recommend looking at Asus. I've heard good things about them but never owned them.I've had 2 high-end HPs (between my husband and myself) that never left the house but yet had some serious phys...
  2. There are a couple options: 1) Freshman entry programs - You are accepted into the nursing program as a freshman as long as you get a certain GPA, you will continue into the nursing program 2) Early acceptance - Most schools allow you to have a few p...
  3. New to this forum and need help please

What I'd recommend is possibly look into volunteering at a crisis prevention center. Talk to the people there and see what type of education is required. A psychiatric nurse would be good but there may be other options as well. I'd definitely tal...
  4. Paying for school??

Not everyone can do what I plan to do but I will be self-paying. No kids, living off my husband's income and paying for school with the savings I've built.
  5. Shocked by new grads at job fair

Well I think the obese statement was uncalled for as well. On your other comments, did you go to a job fair when you graduated? Were students like that then? I'm coming from a completely different field and I graduated college (the first time) 14 ye...
  6. Well it could possibly mess up your financial aid but you'd have to see how it might impact you. Also, some nursing schools won't accept those with a BS already so ensure that the schools you are applying for will not have an issue with you having a...
  7. Online Courses vs. In Class Courses

One of the schools I'm applying to said specifically they will not accept online science classes but I can't imagine doing those online anyway. I took statistics and nutrition online. With statistics, we had formal meetings once per week and we had ...
  8. What is the best computer to have for school?

I just bought a brand new 15" MBP. It is a great machine. Personally, I think for the average nursing-type student, a Macbook Air would probably be one of the best options. Unless you have side projects that you plan to do or play graphically in...
  9. Question about major change?

I think overall there is some confusion about second degree nursing programs. They are meant for people, like myself, who went through school and graduated with a BS/BA and then decided to go into nursing. If you know as a freshman, look for a nurs...
  10. Anyone registered for Fall 2012 classes yet?

AP2 Ethics And that is the last of my pre-reqs. (I registered for Fall classes back in April)
  11. Summer 2012 - Check in

I got another B on my test from yesterday. Would you believe that I marked the scantron wrong for a problem I worked out and had the right problem written on the test? The teacher wouldn't give me credit though. I also did a couple dumb mistakes. ...
  12. Summer 2012 - Check in

Chem is scaring me but maybe I should relax. If I make a mid to high B on the rest of our tests (2 tests, 1 final), I can get an A in the class. A lot of the points we get dinged for seem pretty arbitrary. For our lab grades, we do these multiple...
  13. I'm taking Chem right now and I envy you if you were able to still fit in exercise. My hardest thing was still trying to do normal household chores and cook food for myself and my husband. I wake up at 7am, (today is 6am but its a test today), start...
  14. Nurse practitioner or do

There will always be *******s in the world, that is how it is. Only you can make the decision of DO or NP. If you want to go to nursing school and then apply to DO school, you can do that, you'd just have to take extra undergrad classes to do that.
  15. Working and Pre-Reqs

I work 40-60 hours/week and I take 1-2 classes per semester. For the past 4 weeks, I've been taking a summer class and the hours are killing me. The class is from 5:30pm to 10pm and we have things due almost daily. So basically, I get up around 7a...
  16. What to expect in LPN school?

The LPN/LVN student boards may be a better place to ask LPN / LVN Nursing Student
  17. I agree that you might not be ready. You have some challenges and everyone is different but you have to figure out why you are getting such poor grades. Do you not understand the material? Are you not devoting enough time to your classes? Do you...
  18. Summer 2012 - Check in

Our last chem test had tons of formulas and I thought I had everything down. I ended up getting the lowest test score since starting my pre-reqs, an 86%. I haven't had a test under 90% in any of my other classes. And the reason are stupid things. ...
  19. Summer 2012 - Check in

I feel a bit frazzled but that is partly because work is continuing to be crazy while I'm juggling school. I got a 99 on our second test (made a stupid mistake and lost a point, oh well). 3 weeks down, 3 more to go.
  20. Usually a school will say flat out whether they accept online classes or not. If they accept them, they accept them.
  21. Do you have a lot of Debt to pay off

For my first undergrad degree (no parental help), I had 11k in loans for 5 years of school. Those were paid off a few years after I graduated. For my BSN, I'll be paying out of savings so no debts.
  22. I never had to take college algebra so I can't remember what an algebra course entails but like most math courses, practice is your friend. Work problems out in the book, first without looking at the explanations, then with them. Seek out tutoring ...
  23. Summer 2012 - Check in

The class I'm taking is chem and we have a test every week on 2 chapters. It is tiring because I start work at 8-8:30, get off work at 5, drive to class. Get out of class at 10, go home, do homework for next day and repeat.
  24. Nursing Degree? Please help!

That'd be true if she was closer to graduating but with only one year under her belt, to me, it doesnt make sense to spend 3 years in college pursuing a degree you don't want.
  25. Nursing Degree? Please help!

A BS in biology doesn't buy you anything. I'd start looking at schools around you and see what their pre-reqs are and apply to their BSN programs. You may also want to look at other locations as well.
