  1. Chest tube care

Make sure you have really thick skin for the verbal beating you'll get from the MD for milking or clamping a chest tube!
  2. IV question

The way I understood the OP, a primary tubing was connected at the normal secondary port above the pump. I guess if all the clamps were open, it could work...lots of backpriming for the next dose though! If I didn't have any secondary tubing and the ...
  3. Gymshoes vs. Clogs - how to spare your knees/back?

Try Alegria before you make a decision! They are super soft and very supportive. Love them!
  4. What can I do to these scrub stains? Help Me!!!!

I was referring to the Rit white; if it can be used on all fabrics. I know better than to use bleach!
  5. less painful heparin injections?

Distraction. I have them take a deep breath in while I count to 3. When I say 3 they blow out hard, like blowing out candles and I go for it. I've had many people say they didn't even realize I was done. Distraction is a great thing! lol
  6. What can I do to these scrub stains? Help Me!!!!

Does it matter what material the scrubs are made of? I just recently went to white tops; some are poly, some are all cotton, etc. I would love if it were as simple as adding a solution to keep them white!
  7. Nursing Documentation

I'm guessing you have paper documentation. I
  8. New Grad Med Surg Nurse Freaking Out!

:rotfl: That has to be the funniest thing I've read all day!!! No matter what I did, it took me the better part of the first year to get mostly comfortable with the regular day to day things. Just in the last few months have the sudden out of the o...
  9. So, what's your minimum "good shift" standard?

Or the floor!!! (been there night before last...yuck)I have to agree that the one thing that can really make all the difference is the group I'm working with.
  10. Alegria Clogs and socks

Always socks. I usually wear compression socks for work.
  11. Overnights hangover - one day off

When I only have 36 hours off I tend take three naps. One when I get home in the am for about 4 or 5 hours, I go to bed for 4 or 5 hours overnight then nap again for several hours before going back in. It usually totals 12 to 15 hours depending on ho...
  12. Another stupid Dansko thread

That's why I bought Alegrias! The Danskos hurt my feet in less than te minutes in the store. The Alegrias have never hurt; they've been uber comfy since I put them on, no breaking in necessary breaking in period!
  13. Best shoes ever?

I wasn't sure so I went to a store that had both Alegrias and Danskos to try them on. I tried Danskos first, had them on about 5 minutes walking around the store before my feet started to hurt. Did the same with the Alegrias and felt like I was walki...
  14. I work on a busy med/surg unit.....really???

Many times I answer with "do you want the polite answer or the truth". Makes them think about why the really asked. If it's at work I usually say "everybody is still breathing" which we all know is a good thing! lol
  15. Best shoes ever?

Close! I'm a FAN of Kathy Troccoli (who goes by KT). Small Internet world, huh?
  16. Best shoes ever?

Alegrias are AHmazing! Love love love them! I'm trying to NOT buy another pair. I have talk and really can't justify another 100+ dollars for shoes I don't need right now. I use the Mary Jane style. (twinmom, I think I recommended them to you on a t...
  17. Unusual/Disruptive ways my unit functions

Our charges carry phones and any codes (blue, yellow, whatever) are overhead paged so it doesn't really matter if they are still in the unit conference room.
  18. I'm a newbie but I refuse to write even something simple like adding tele or a chair alarm without calling the doc. No way no how. Sometimes my charge will say it's fine based on which doc it is but I won't do it. If she chooses to, that's her licens...
  19. Staffing Sucks

Wondering if Flames works on my unit! To the OP, a total of 9 people to care for 12 patients sounds like paradise to me. We seem to be the catch-all unit: cva, mi, response fail, overdoses, you name it we get it. On nights we take 5 to 6 each (RNs, ...
  20. Anatomy & Physiology (1 and 2) + Microbiology = SUMMER

I think it might be doable in ideal circumstances but if it were me I wouldn't want to set myself up to do poorly. I don't see how you could truly get the most out of each class doing them all together, never mind that it's over the summer. I'd save ...
  21. How fast did you find your first job?

Interview and offer six weeks after NCLEX; start date was three weeks later. Believe me, I know how lucky I was.
  22. Ampule Question: Does this make sense?

THIS!! I say this everytime I have to try to snap one open. Ugh!
  23. If a pt you got close to is readmitted...

I just did this! I admitted a pt last week then had a few days off. When I went back Sat for my three in a row, I saw her name. I went in several times each night to see her and the family and hold her hand for a few minutes. They are one of those fa...
  24. New RN, already making mistakes

I decided early on that passing meds correctly was more important than passing them quickly. You get faster as you get used to the process. It took me a while (many months) to let the timing not bother me as much. I start early and sometimes finish l...
  25. Goofy gift for new nurse manager buddy

Cafepress has tons of stuff. I can spend hours reading and laughing on that site!
